MPFT Corporate Safeguarding Service consists of various professionals working together to deliver the safeguarding agenda and ensure that the MPFT statutory functions are delivered.


The post holder will work as part of the Safeguarding team to ensure that the Trust achieves full compliance against key local and national standards for the safeguarding of children and adults;and will have the knowledge and skills to be able to provide expert, relevant and tested advice and support in line with statutory duties and NHS contractual requirements to frontline staff and managers.


The post holder is a highly developed clinical specialist for safeguarding adults and children as defined in the intercollegiate documents for adults and children.

The post holder will work autonomously and provide specialist safeguarding advice within the organisation, working in collaboration with partner agencies, on health and social care issues to support and facilitate the safeguarding of adults and children in line with national legislation and local guidelines.

The post holder is required to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information where significant barriers to acceptance may need to be overcome using the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills.

MPFT safeguarding team are an enthusiastic team who try to adopt a forward thinking approach to our business. The team currently opt for a blended style of working - some home and office base working.


The post holder would be part of a busy central safeguarding team involved in information sharing, decision making and conducting enquiries under s42 of the care act 2014.


The are also opportunities for the post holder in developing safeguarding training and communications across the trust to help develop the knowledge of others.


  • To provide highly specialist expert safeguarding children and adult advice, clinical and supervisory support to staff within an integrated health organisation on safeguarding issues. Providing effective leadership and support to MPFT staff on child and adult protection issues and concerns, utilising national legislation, local policies and procedures, research and audit finding and recommendations from serious case reviews. This also includes decision making where professional opinion varies and managing conflict where investigating agencies are reluctant to proceed.
  • To Provide and maintain a framework for safeguarding supervision ensuring that advice, support and guidance is given to enable and empower practitioners, often making complex and difficult decisions to resolve sensitive safeguarding issues while retaining overall accountability and responsibility for the advice that has been given. This will include supporting distressed staff and ensuring that specific challenges are dealt with effectively.
  • To work alongside staff to ensure that timely safeguarding issues are identified and timely, highquality referrals are made.
  • To be the health representative and work as part of the Multiagency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), contributing to multiagency discussions and decision making on child and adult protection issues, by way of attendance at strategy discussions / planning meetings. Providing expert health care advice / information, to enable assessment of risk and care planning to protect and safeguard adults and children.
