Description
A Trainee Transport Planner will be responsible for assisting in controlling the efficient deployment and routing of delivery vehicles around the UK.
This will include assisting with route planning, allocating resources and administrating delivery metrics on a day-to-day basis.The Trainee Transport Planner will help deliver first-class customer service through agreed KPIs that maximise vehicle and manpower utilisation within a targeted budget.
You will also contribute towards workplace health & safety standards whilst ensuring regulatory compliance is adhered to.Key Accountabilities
- Assist with planning workloads ensuring compliance with driver's hours and working time directive legislation
- Using geographical knowledge to maximise the fleet ability to work
- Successfully, assist with planning the vehicles in such a way to minimise running costs, and maximise vehicle revenue
- Shadow and understand how to briefing and debriefing drivers starting and finishing their shift
- Learn to supervise and managing driver work loads
- Assist with sourcing extra drivers when needed
- Learn to react to route planning changes when needed and rerouting
- Ensuring KPI's are met
- Shadow and understand how to provide a detailed and accurate handover to next shift
- Maintaining good clear driver and depot communication always
- Learn to ensuring what correct paperwork driver must have and ensure its delivered
- Ensuring drivers are on time (using software installed)
- Be confident to deal with driver queries face to face and via telephone
- Ensuring drivers are up to date with any road problems and challenging drivers when needed to ensure deliveries are on time
- Working within a team of planners, to achieve the common goal of effectively servicing our current client base
- Shadow and understand how to liaise with site managers, to obtain and provide key information such as ETAs
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of MS Office Word/Excel/Outlook
- Demonstrate proven administrative experience (not essential)
- Desire to work within the transport sector
- Experience of working within an office environment (work experience is noted)
- Good local and national geographical knowledge
- Organised with a methodical approach to tasks
- Ability to prove organisational skills
- Open minded in their approach to all workrelated tasks
- Ability to consistently follow set company procedures
- Confident telephone manner
- Effective communicator oral and written
- Able to build from constructive criticism
- The ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
- Able to work from own initiative and also as part of a team
- Motivated, proactive and reliable
- Full driving licence essential or willing to learn
