Head of Operations, Construction - Divisional Director

The jobholder is responsible for providing operational support to a nominated broking team or business unit.

They will work closely with the Head of the Team/Business Unit to ensure that operational activities within their areas are carried out in accordance with the relevant Company and/or Group policies.


The jobholder provides the first line of defence, for the Team on all operational matters and acts as the primary interface between the Team and central support services.

This includes interaction with other Operations specialists across their Operating Entity and within the Group.

The jobholder will frequently interact with Deputy COO's of their Operating entity to ensure that strategies and operational initiatives are implemented effectively.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Planning and Strategy:

  • Support the Head of Team in monitoring and reporting Team revenue and progress against budget.
  • Support the Head of Team in monitoring and reporting Team travel/entertainment and progress against budget. Implement appropriate cost control on behalf of Team Heads.
  • Support the Head of the Team in budgeting and business planning processes
  • Escalate any areas of concern in relation to operations issues, for review by Team Heads.
  • Represents the Team on Operating Entity operational and other committees, as required
  • Works with other Operations specialists to improve operational excellence, drive efficiencies and roll out any changes to existing processes
  • Manages assigned projects and contributes to other project as required
  • Provides relevant management information to senior managers

Technical:

  • Provides technical oversight on all operational process. Will provide the interface between their broking team/business unit to ensure the smooth transition of work, in relation to any services provided by back office operational teams e.g. Specialty Support. They will manage their work on a matrix basis with the Deputy COO's to ensure that all work is processed efficiently and accurately and that any issues are resolved promptly
  • Provides support to both internal and external audit functions

Policy, Process and Procedures:

  • Supports the Head of Team in monitoring that the Team complies with all relevant Group policies &procedures, laws and regulations
  • Works with managers within their Team/Business Unit to ensure that the Team's/Business Units records are up to date and meet the Group's requirements

Environment, Customer Focus and Relationships:

  • Build relationships and liaise with all central service functions, including but not limited to; Business Risk, Finance, Facilities/Corporate Real Estate Services, IT for hardware and service desk issues, Learning & Development for training, HR for Joiners, Movers and Leavers. The job holder will coordinate activity/provide feedback on behalf of the Team in each of these areas.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Will have previous insurance experience either within operations or as a broker
  • Will be to demonstrate a strong understanding of insurance, and have knowledge of the London and international markets (as appropriate to the territory within which they operate)
  • A good understanding of data and emerging technologies and how they apply
  • Is able to manipulate financial data and understand budgets

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educated to A level standard
  • Relevant professional qualifications are desirable but not essential e.g. ACII, ACCA etc
