The Head of Trusted Research Collaboration is a new role in Research Services which seeks to facilitate international collaboration in the context of a dynamic and increasingly complex risk and regulatory environment in which external parties such as governments and funders are paying increasing attention.

About the Role


As the Head of Trusted Research Collaboration, you will provide internal University executive-level strategic advice, briefings and support, and be a key point of contact for the Export Control Joint Unit and other parts of the UK Government such as Research Collaboration Advice Team and the Centre for the Protection for National Infrastructure.


You will build and lead a team which will work with professional support staff across the University to develop and deliver policy and practice, guidance and training to academic, research and professional services staff and research students in relevant areas of international collaboration risk.

You will convene and build communities of practice to share experience and promote exchange of learning and best practice.


You will represent the University on external networks such as the Russell Group Export Control Forum and Higher Education Export Control Association.

You will lead on responding to national consultations and submissions to public bodies on behalf of the University, and supporting senior University officers in engagement with government, funders and sector-wide consultations.


About You


You are rooted and expert in the Trusted Research agenda and have the credibility and personal authority to work with people at all levels in a large, complex organisation.


You have experience of creating and developing highly successful teams, ideally in a higher education or research environment, and building productive and effective relationships and networks.

You will have a focus on achieving results.


You have excellent communication skills - both in writing and orally, and superb listening and influencing skills, as well as a sharp analytical mind and an ability to think laterally.
