Market Risk Management (MRM) operates as a market risk control function within the Risk Management Division, reporting to the CRO


MRM's key responsibilities are:

  • Ensuring limits are set in line with the Firm's risk appetite and budgetary requirements
  • Monitoring usage against limits and managing any breaches/escalation in accordance with the Market Risk Limit Policy. The type of limits may include but not limited to VaR, IRC, sensitivity and stress testing limits
  • Providing independent market risk analyst advice to the Front Office, senior management and other stakeholders
  • Risk reporting and aggregation by desk, region, global product line and legal entity, and delivering these reports to traders and Front Office senior management
  • Providing MI and risk reporting to regional and global executive management, CEOs and regional and legal entity boards and committees
  • Assessing new business/products referred to them as part of the preapproval process (i.e. NEPAL process), and evaluating the market risks associated with these products
The Market Risk Reporting team are a global team located in Singapore, Mumbai, London and New York.

The team is responsible for the design and implementation of; reporting, dashboards, over-arching reporting strategy, associated controls & governance andthe toolset made available to Market Risk Management.


Role overview:


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work primarily with Market Risk Managers directly in the gathering of requirements, design and implementation of new content or changes to existing content, as well as ongoing maintenance and adherence to reporting governance
  • Design and production of committee presentations and MI that deliver key messages coherently to regional and global senior management
  • Lead calls and working groups to engage with risk departments to prepare materials for senior management committees
  • Support teams in each region to facilitate regulatory and adhoc data extraction, reporting & analysis requests
  • Contribute to bankwide global initiatives that impact Market Risk reporting
  • Ensure that reporting is compliant with the requisite Data and Reporting governance frameworks, working with the offshore reporting analysts to execute periodic reporting controls
  • Collaborate with onshore and offshore market risk infrastructure functions in the resolution of risk engine, batch and data quality issues
  • Work with various IT teams across the bank to facilitate system enhancements for Risk, providing business requirements as well as planning and performing appropriate functional and regression testing
  • Represent Market Risk reporting at the various Risk working groups and committees as the delegate of the global head of risk reporting
  • Work with regional risk management teams to elicit feedback / commentary and use in the preparation of senior management and committee decks
  • Produce or review reports on a daily basis
  • Transition end user computing to alternate strategic tools to find efficiencies in daily production and reduce the groups operational risk footprint

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
Essential

  • Bachelor's/University degree
  • 24 years of relevant experience in a Market Risk reporting role within a financial services institution
  • Strong knowledge of financial products and an understanding of the associated risk drivers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to face off to stakeholders of varying levels of seniority
  • Able to work well under pressure either individually or collaborating across diverse groups within the organization
  • An ability to multitask between BAU activities and project work whilst maintaining a clear view of the firms priorities
  • A process improvement mindset
  • Advanced usage of Microsoft Excel/VBA and proficiency in Tableau or Power BI
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets with SQL as well as knowledge of basic data modelling principles and relational databases
Desirable

  • An understanding of credit risk and stress testing and their interaction with Market Risk
  • Programming capability in Python or R
  • Previous experience using data preparation tools such as Alteryx
  • Static Report building tools such as SAP Business Objects or Microsoft SSRS
