Description

Trainee Occupational Hygienist, SOCOTEC,
East Kilbride
Are you inquisitive, observant, precise, and enjoy interacting with different people? Are you a technical, analytical problem solver who is equally happy to work "hands on?"

Are you a recent graduate in Chemistry or similar discipline, or someone who currently works in a technical field based role such as safety, environment monitoring or asbestos surveying?

Then have you considered a career as an Occupational Hygienist?

As an Occupational Hygienist, your job will be to identify, measure, assess and advise on the control of health hazards in the workplace.

You'll need to understand how chemical, physical and biological agents may affect the short and long term health of the workforce, and what practical cost effective measures can be put in place to minimise the risks.

Health hazards could be chemical, such as dusts, vapours and fumes, physical, such as noise and vibration, or biological such as airborne bacteria.

You will work in a range of settings, including factories, offices, building sites and quarries, helping clients to respond effectively to legislative requirements.

To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity for a trainee or partially qualified Occupational Hygienist to join our Environment and Safety Division working within our southern region.

You will be mentored by one of SOCOTEC's network of qualified Occupational Hygienists, who over time will guide you down your own development route so that you can reach your full potential.

You will:

  • Attend clients' operational sites to perform scheduled monitoring to determine exposure to dust, fume, noise, vibration and other workplace hazards.
  • Perform monitoring exercises in line with formal written procedures.
  • Prepare documentation and samples you collect for further analysis by a SOCOTEC laboratory.
