THE POST
The College Library has 20,000 books, over 1,000 DVDs, 50 journals and newspapers, and desktop
computers. It has approximately 140 study places divided into silent and quiet areas. The College
has two Student Learning Centres, which are 'drop in' computer rooms with desktop computers and
laptops and individual study areas. Each is supervised by a member of the Library team. The post
holder will be working alone when working in the Student Learning Centre
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- To ensure issuing and receipt of books.
- To be responsible for simple enquiry work.
- To supervise private study areas and maintaining a quiet Library environment.
- To shelve and tidy books.
- To process new books.
- To work on a regular basis in the Rotherfield Student Learning Centre and in the Deanfield Student Learning Centre, at times determined by the Senior Librarian.
- To be responsible for some display work in the Library and other areas of the College, including researching and photocopying relevant information.
- To identify personal staff development needs to meet the College's Strategic and Operational plan and personal continuous development.
- To work to the College quality standards within the context of the College quality systems and the College charter.
- Such other duties needed for the smooth running of the Library as may be determined by the Senior Librarian.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- To maintain awareness of the requirements of the College Health and Safety Policy and to be responsible for ensuring that the duties and responsibilities detailed in the College Health and Safety Policy are adhered to and carried out.
- To read the College Single Equality Scheme and to act in accordance with statutory obligations under the equality duties and in compliance with current Equality and Diversity legislation.
- To ensure adherence to the College Data Protection Policy.
- To work to the College quality standards and systems within the context of the College quality systems.
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are appropriate to this level of post, including any reasonable request made by the managers.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential skills and Characteristics
- Knowledge and experience of Word and general computer literacy
- Well organised and methodical
- Adaptable
- Able to work as part of a team
- Able to be assertive with students
Desirable Skills and Characteristics
- Previous Library experience
- A flair for art and design
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Tenure of post:
Permanent, Term time only (38 weeks)
Hours of work: 21 hours per week:
Monday 8.00am - 4.00pm (45 minute lunch)
Tuesday 8.00am - 4.00pm (45 minute lunch)
Wednesday 8.00am - 3.00pm (30 minute lunch)
Salary:
£20,106.00 per annum pro rated to part time term time only actual salary approx £9,500.00
Pension:
Local Government Pension Scheme (optional). This is an employee and employer contributory pension scheme.
