WHAT WE DO

Sports for Schools is a
Social Enterprise that brings the
country's top athletes into primary schools to inspire kids to take up sport and live a healthy life.

We run a
fun fitness circuit in which the athlete joins the children with their exercises, lasting around one and a half hours.

The athlete then gives a talk, a demonstration or interactive session depending on their sport, and a Q&A session (half an hour in total).

One of our founding values is to provide work to elite athletes that is both financially and personally rewarding.

THIS JOB:
"SPORTIVATER"
The Sportivater's role is to act as host/compare for the event itself.

They are the front of the scheme, ensuring that the event is successful, and that everyone has a terrific time.

More practically, it suits someone who can take ownership of a hall, project themselves, while also being engaged and energetically encouraging of the children.

Children's entertainers are particularly good at this job, for example.

On arrival, the Sportivater needs to complete some admin (risk assessment), connect with the PE Coordinator, explain the routine, and get the hall set up.

Events are loud, with music and lots of cheering kids. After the fitness circuits, the Sportivater will introduce the athlete, and run the Q&A session.

Some Sportivaters are in fact also athletes, who have not yet reached the standard, or who just like to do both roles.

Sportivaters (and athletes) need to be checked for child protection, and be drivers with access to a car.

AMOUNT OF WORK
Those that do this work find it to be some of the most enjoyable and rewarding work they do.

We book either morning or afternoon sessions.

A morning session usually requires arrival at 8.30am sharp, finishing around 11.45am, and afternoon events usually require arrival at 12.30pm finishing around 3.30pm.

We aim to make sure that people do not have to drive more than 1 hour, though occasionally it ends up being more than that.

We expect this Sportivaters based in this area will run between 10 and 20 events each school term depending on their availability and demand.

Once an athlete or sportivater has been assigned to an event, we expect that they will not pull out for any reason other than serious injury, call up for an unexpectedly good competition opportunity, or some bereavement or similar sudden family issue.

This work suits people are flexible during the daytime - so people who work often evenings, or of course athletes in training.

We need to have people's calendar A TERM IN ADVANCE so that we know when we can book for them.

For example, by 1st September, we need to have the calendar of availability for January - mid April of the following year.

That also helps people since they can work their other activities around these school events (which can be made up to 6 months in advance).

The pay is £95 for a half day or £190 for a whole day plus 30p/mile travel.
