About our Maritime Business:

About our Geotechnics Team:


You will be leading a team of approximately 15 people of mixed experience ranging from Principal Geotechnical Engineers to new graduate Engineers.

Your role is to develop and grow the team to continue to support the Maritime work in the UK and overseas, and as part of the team to provide geotechnical expertise to other parts of the global business.


The team within the UK are in four locations (Peterborough, Brighton, Liverpool and Newcastle), with the largest concentration of the team within our Peterborough Office.

We have developed ways of working across the team which would mean that we are open to applicants from any of these offices (plus London).


What you will do as our Associate Director:

You could be a team leader or Principal Engineer with a natural flare for leading a team in delivering strategic ambitions.

You will have full autonomy to line manage our Geotechnic team at the same time as contributing your knowledge to influence the businesses overall profitability.

The role has a mixture of both technical lead aspects and people management elements.

  • Line Manager to the Geotechnical team in the UK, with development of staff a key priority.
  • Effective leader to promote and deliver strategy objectives.
  • Allocate resources to projects to provide an appropriate level of experience to projects.
  • Actively contribute to the delivery of projects utilising geotechnical and commercial experience.
  • Proactively contributes to the preparation and review of geotechnical proposals.
  • Providing sound technical and commercial advice to project teams.
  • Develop and maintain a network of domestic and international (internal) contacts to provide the opportunities for the Geotechnical team to support the wider business.
  • Member of the AG Management team and jointly responsible for the overall performance of the AG.
  • Financial controls across the geotechnical team.
  • Continue to develop our internal / business processes.
  • Ability to collaborate on projects as a project manager, director or team member where appropriate.

This role might be right for you if you have:

  • Relevant degree level qualification in the field of geotechnical engineering
  • A track record of success within civil engineering or infrastructure organisations in a leadership role managing teams of technical staff to deliver a portfolio of projects
  • Ability to recognise and foster the required relationships in order to position the business
  • MICE or equivalent accreditation/experience to support the complex nature of business development and technical input required for the position
  • Extensive experience in the maritime and infrastructure sectors
  • Effective and proven leadership skills
  • Ability to influence, convince and partner with key internal stakeholders and colleagues to achieve broader collaboration and shared strategy goals.
