Description

Role Purpose:

To assist the Buyer/Senior Buyer in planning, sourcing and negotiating a commercial and competitively priced product range across all channels, whilst maximising sales and margin for the department.

Be accountable for a given category including strategy, product range, performance, and quality working alongside the merchandising team and with guidance from the Buyer/Senior Buyer.

Effective management of junior team members. Deputise for the Buyer when applicable.


Accountabilities:
Customer

  • Customers are at the heart of everything you do, you're relentless in ensuring you listen to our customers. You lead by example.
  • Develop positive working relationships with suppliers. Participate in supplier meetings to effectively develop product and negotiate prices in line with Nutmeg quality and design values.
  • Identify any opportunities or risk in the supply base, and propose suggestions to Buyer/Senior Buyer
  • Work with marketing department, visual merchandising and PR teams to develop strong and consistent marketing messages, visual merchandising strategies and brand image for the given category and department, keeping the buyer/senior buyer informed.
  • Ensure the critical path is being accurately kept up to date and adhered to dealing with any issues.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of customer profile and market trends.

  • Continuously challenge process, and systems to ensure we deliver the best value for our customers
  • Effectively manage and delegate tasks in Buyer/Senior buyer's absence.

Operational

  • Proactively be involved in the department strategy, helping to develop and build a commercial product range that reflects the Nutmeg brand strategy, being able to utilise all information from historical analysis, retail market data and future trends.
  • Present to Buyer/Senior Buyer a clearly defined product plan and strategy for a given category supported by clear and sound reasoning.
  • Deliver a commercial and competitive range for given category whilst ensuring that the brand standards in both quality and value are maintained and sales and margin targets are met.
  • Establish key working relationships with Merchandising, Design, Technical teams and suppliers. Effectively communicate across the teams any issues, proposes solutions and updates accordingly.
  • Ensure a customer focused knowledge of the varying market and trends by regular competitive and own store visits to help the Buyer/Senior Buyer to deliver a product range that is balanced and reflects customer requirements in terms of pricing, quality and fashionability. Offer your own proactive thoughts and ideas to the Buyer/Senior Buyer/Head of Buying and Design.
  • Assist the Buyer/Senior Buyer in operating an effective and timely product sign off process, in line with the product critical path and planning cycle.
  • Always consider the way we merchandise products in store and the associated impacts.
  • Regularly review operational performance to improve plans and delivery.
  • Put forward proposals to the Buyer/Senior buyer accompanied with sound reasoning on travel plans.
  • Prepare and manage any reports as requested by the department for meetings.
  • Deputise for the Buyer/Senior Buyer when required.
Sales, Profit and Cash

  • Awareness of the business and own departments weekly and seasonal sales and profit figures.
  • Maximising sales and profit for given category within the product department to meet agreed targets through strong negotiation and development of global supplier relations.
  • Weekly monitoring and evaluation working with the merchandising team on the performance of the given category against forecasted and targeted figures. Constantly reviewing sales and identifying opportunities and risk whilst seeking guidance from the Senior Buyer/Buyer.
