The role


This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy team who manage the research project portfolio within the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) faculty.

As part of Finance and Business Services the role supports the team to provide high quality financial services to university managers.


The role supports the management of over 150 research projects and involves: the set-up of projects on SAP; allocation and updating budgets; monitoring expenditure against budget, completing reconciliations, and reporting of expenditure, producing claims and final statements and raising invoices to funders and/or customers where required.


The role requires an analytical mind with an attention to detail to ensure accurate claims are submitted in line with funders terms and conditions.


This is a fixed term contract for 12 months which will have a site-based contract although currently the OU are working a hybrid model.


Skills and experience

  • AAT Intermediate, with evidence of exam success.
  • Recent, relevant experience of working in a financial accounting environment.
  • Experience of costing /budgeting / forecasting.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (creating spreadsheets and charts and using financial Excel functions).
  • Strong analytical skills with a good understanding of bookkeeping and double entry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deal confidently with a range of people at all levels.
  • Previous experience of using SAP or similar financial systems is desirable.
