East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) is commissioning a project to review the clinical decision support system (CDSS), or triage platform used within its 999 control room locations, situated at Nottingham and Lincoln.

As part of the Trusts ambition to see digital enablement at the heart of services provided to patients, any future 999 triage platform will lead to better patient outcomes through providing clinicians with access to triage and decision support tools that will support the delivery of the most clinically appropriate, and cost-effective care to each patient, correct categorisation of acuity need, and resultant improved resource utilisation.

  • To be the custodian of all project information to ensure that a single source of the truth is maintained.
  • Establish and maintain project controls to oversee the coordination of issues, risks, change control, decision and action logs.
  • Keep the project manager aware of the project status against plan. Prepare project performance reports, present statistics and research new information.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.
  • Procurement of supplies and services related to project support within Delegated Financial Authority limits.
  • Contribute to the compilation of project budgets and monitor project spend.
  • Ensures an accurate asset register is maintained.
  • Manage potential risk areas, working with risk managers and escalating as appropriate
  • Manage professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and act as lead point of contact for some external parties.
  • Planning meetings, preparing papers and recording appropriately.
  • Responsibility for daytoday liaison with project workstream leads.
  • Lead on delivery of discrete work packages.
  • Maintains action logs and follow up actions.
  • Setting up stakeholder engagement events.


This project is an exercise in change management and introduces new ways of working not only for those answering the telephone, but also for the way in which the organisation relates to the wider NHS.

It requires service redesign across the organisation and the wider health economy, which will bring new opportunities but also many challenges and risks that will need to be actively managed.


The successful individual will provide high quality project support to a highly skilled and motivated multi-disciplinary project team and be actively involved in all stages of the delivery of this key strategic enabler for change within EMAS which will lead to improved patient experience and outcomes across the East Midlands region.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are a must and experience of supporting projects would be advantageous, but not essential.


This role is vital to the successful delivery of the new service and will support the Senior Project Manager with ensuring robust governance processes and documentation are established and maintained in line with best practice.
