Description

About Us
MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage.

We investigate suspect individuals and organisations in the UK to obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence relating to these threats.

Alongside our British Intelligence partners MI6 and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to protect national security.

At MI5, you'll enjoy varied and rewarding work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

The Role
As a Commercial Practitioner, you'll provide a responsive, efficient and professional service in line with our commercial policy.

Supporting the Associate Commercial Lead and working closely with customers at all levels, you'll assist with the delivery of goods and services, and ensure projects are delivered on time and in-line with requirements.

You could be working with our
Customer Facing Teams, managing relationships, developing commercial solutions and agreeing the future pipeline and prioritisation of the workbook.

Or, you might be supporting
Commercial Delivery within Category Teams across Technology, Estates, People and Professional Services, and the Supply Chain Security Team.

We also have roles in
Commercial Operations, with responsibility for Policy, Audit, Finance, MI and People Development.

This is a role with broad scope.

You'll work with customers in highly sensitive operational areas, as well as liaising with suppliers, government partners and our overseas counterparts.

Plus, you'll task manage a small commercial team of your own, building their capabilities and enhancing their impact through the continuous development of working practices and approaches.

You'll share your enthusiasm and motivate those around you, providing support and approaching tasks with positivity.

In doing so, you'll add real value to a department making a genuine contribution to the safety of the UK.

About You
You'll bring a high level of customer focus, commercial acumen and knowledge of procurement processes to this role.

With your experience of working in a procurement and supply chain service, you'll know how to secure value for money and deliver best practice.

This will be supported by your ability to build rapport and develop strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, and your own team.

You'll have experience in at least one of the following: contract management, sourcing, commercial policy and assurance, supply chain or low value procurement and invoicing.

Additionally, it's not essential, but we would welcome any experience you might have of managing a supplier, or of working within a role that required purchasing, bill management, and drafting and managing contracts.

You'll also hold, or be willing to study towards, a professional commercial qualification such as CIPS (or equivalent).

We'll look to you to find cost-saving solutions, so you'll have knowledge of category management approaches that deliver cash releasing savings and total cost reductions.

Plus, you'll be confident prioritising the commercial workbook for the customer delivery of Business As Usual (BAU) and Spending Review 2021 (SR21).

Your expertise will be key, and so will your ability to drive those around you. You'll be a role model for your team, providing support and encouraging confidence through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

And, you'll take a positive approach to resolving issues and setbacks - analysing situations, making recommendations and improving our service to customers.

Training and Development
No matter your experience or background, you'll receive dedicated support when you join.

We'll work with you to build your own progression plan, from mentorship with an assigned partner to access to a wealth of core and technical skills training.

We'll support your career growth, including the completion of relevant qualifications as you progress.

You'll get all the help and guidance you need to grow a rewarding career at the heart of national security.

Plus, you'll be working in a culture committed to your development.

You'll have an induction into the function when you start and regular check-ins with your manager throughout the year, as well as help to identify the skills and experience you need to excel.

In short, you won't be on your own - throughout your career, you'll be surrounded by colleagues who want you to succeed.
