- To work collaboratively and in partnership with the Specialist Midwifery Team supporting the midwives to deliver individualised care packages to vulnerable and complex patients and their families.
- To assist and support the midwives in the care of the mother and baby under indirect supervision.
- To carry out delegated tasks as part of the specialist midwifery team, which will focus on the needs of individuals and the community respecting equality and diversity. This will include health promotion, the prevention of ill health and will include undertaking measurements of physical wellbeing of mother and baby, recording and reporting appropriately.
- To deliver high standards of physical, psychological and social aspects of care under the indirect supervision of the specialist midwives.
- The role will include integrating care from different services and contributing to the safeguarding of infants within vulnerable families.
- Dedicated administration duties to support the midwives service delivery.
- To work collaboratively within the Specialist Midwifery team to ensure a high standard of care for service users which include:
- survivors of abuse, homelessness, drug and alcohol users, patients experiencing poor mental health and migrant women and their families.
- To follow the midwives guidance and instructions whilst working independently and as part of the team.
- To assist the midwives in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care using an agreed plan of care ensuring consistency.
- To organise and book interpreters where required for facetoface appointments and to facilitate and take part in three way interpreter telephone calls.
- To support the patient at health appointments where required.
- Undertake a range of physical measurements of mother and baby, recording and reporting results to appropriate professionals.
- To assist in the teaching and demonstrating of basic parenting skills on a one to one basis
- To assist Mothers in the care of the newborn baby including addressing the physical and nutritional needs.
- To promote, teach, and support breastfeeding whenever possible, signposting to other agencies where required.

- Experience of working with vulnerable women and families.
- Experience of working with women from diverse communities.
- Experience in working with Mothers and families on an individual and group basis
- Experience of multiagency working.
- Experience of undertaking basic physical health measurements ie Blood pressure, pulse, phlebotomy.
- Experience of undertaking newborn transcutaneous bilirubin (TCB) measurements.
