Job Purpose

Independent Price Verification (IPV) is a key function within Citi and the team is a vital part of the Product Control organization.

The goal for the Valuations Control team is to provide an exceptional quality analysis, while at the same time ensuring a robustcontrol framework around the firm's inventory valuations.


Job Background/context
The Valuation Control team is a cornerstone of the Controller's function. The function is organized into product-aligned teams including a dedicated Price Verification team. The product scope is comprehensive and includes a full range of security and derivativeproducts.

The key responsibilities of the group are to perform the independent price verification for Citi's financial inventory, validate valuation adjustments and evaluate the valuation implications of new trade activity.

They will function as a regional lead for 2 regions within Global Spread Products (GSP) - both EMEA and APAC.

The regional lead is responsible for communicating the regional IPV results as well as Senior Manager Regime (SMR) reporting.

There will be regular interaction with a wide variety of other functions within Markets and Banking globally and within the Global Product Control organization.


Key Responsibilities
People Management and Leadership

  • Strong leadership characteristics that enable the individual to maintain a clear structure of accountability across all aspects of valuation.
  • Ability to influence senior IPV leads (within the GSP VCG team, as well as other asset classes where needed) and global internal partners (trading business, risk)
  • Good communication skills, driving presentations to the global business head(s) and other internal partners, as well as driving and communicating initiatives across the global VCG GSP team
  • Excellent project management skills, driving change globally and communicating and tracking projects effectively
  • Experience manager of managers, developing skills within a team which crosses multiple office locations
  • Assist in setting team's agenda, direction, goals and objectives for the EMEA and APAC GSP Valuation Control Teams
  • Leading and guiding the team in developing techniques in identifying valuation issues
  • Active role as part of the broader regional and global product control senior management team
  • Constructively challenge Front Office valuations while building and maintaining these relationships
Control Framework

  • Accountability for the EMEA/APAC businesses within the GSP Valuations MCA (Manager Control Assessment)
  • Accountability for communicating control initiatives globally
  • Ownership for driving systems and control improvements
  • Responsibility for reviewing and engaging on all valuation matters relating to the EMEA/APAC businesses
Reporting

  • Ownership of all valuation reporting for the EMEA/APAC businesses, including clear and effective presentation of results
  • Ensuring consistency of methodologies across the EMEA/APAC region for the relevant businesses as well as contributing to global consistency initiatives
  • Acting as the senior partner to the Business, Risk, Compliance and Finance in relation to valuation matters
Regulatory

  • Senior point of contact with external audit and regulatory bodies, responsible for all aspects of valuation related reporting and controls

Development Value

Knowledge/Experience:


  • Suitable experience in a valuation, risk or product control related discipline, ideally coupled with experience of managing a team within this environment
  • Strong understanding of current global accounting and regulatory developments pertaining to valuation of financial instruments
  • Ability to understand complex concepts and effectively challenge peers in Finance, Risk and the Business
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
