Description
To operate, monitor and maintain all catchment assets within the Rivington area Catchment team.


This includes Impounding Reservoirs, boreholes, River Intakes, Aqueducts, Land, Built and natural heritage and any associated infrastructure to ensure internal, external and statutory, regulatory and mandatory drivers for reservoir safety, water quality, catchment activities, public access and operational efficiency as well as health and safety are achieved.


Job Accountabilities:


  • To foster and maintain good relationships with all catchment stakeholders and interested parties by facilitating and encouraging the sustainable use and protection of the company's catchments
  • To liaise/communicate with internal and external parties to support, deliver or report upon events and activities which contribute to enhancing the company's overall reputation
  • Carry out necessary catchment and reservoir monitoring and recording in order to protect and preserve our land and assets.
  • To produce a renewal, improvement and maintenance work programme
  • Perform 48 hour monitoring on impounding reservoirs in accordance with company QA policies and procedures and to ensure compliance with statutory obligations in accordance with the Reservoir Safety Act 1975 and Flood Management Act 201
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory abstraction and compensation conditions
  • To ensure business and regulatory requirements regarding reservoir safety are met
  • Manage and monitor organised events on catchment
  • To support and communicate to the wider Catchment Team and Process teams in the delivery of essential action plans affecting UU land and production and quality of raw water
  • Ensure emergency reservoir plans are up to date and fit for purpose
  • Provide prompt response to both operational and catchment events and emergencies when required
  • Ensure compliance with the company QA system
  • Ensure compliance with the company Mobile, Asset, Resource and Scheduling (MARS) system
  • Deliver the catchment capital and revenue maintenance programme and to ensure operational IR tracker actions are progressed ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and good practice guides and provision for safe and legal public access
  • To ensure input into Drinking Water Safety Plan reviews
  • Manage public safety and overall visitor experience by undertaking activities such as site inspections, litter picking, emptying bins and general maintenance
  • Work to reduce risks to raw water quality and ensure regulatory requirements are met
  • To manage, maintain and preserve built and natural heritage features and structures to comply with relevant legislation
  • Ensure a positive visitor experience for customers and members of the public in order to maintain and enhance company reputation and contribute to Dow Jones Sustainability Index
  • To liaise with police and security over antisocial behaviour on catchment land

Knowledge and Skills:


  • City and Guilds diploma in Water Engineering or similar in countryside, environmental or water related discipline
  • Good working knowledge of water and land management working knowledge of visitor and countryside access management and related legislation
  • Knowledge of wildlife legislation on species and habitats
  • Good range of practical countryside management skills
  • Technical understanding of reservoir design and safety
  • Technical understanding of hydraulics and civil engineering
  • Understanding of the Drinking Water Safety Plan approach to water quality risk management
  • Good understanding of H&S legislation
  • Practical experience in Countryside or Environmental Management
  • Wider business experience
