There will be close liaison with academic units at Liverpool University. There will be ample opportunity to become involved in basic science research and work towards mechanistic evaluations. 2.

THE JOB DETAILS LHCH is one of the largest cardiac centres in the United Kingdom, with a strong and rapidly growing portfolio of research.

There would be the opportunity of working towards a higher degree (usually MD thesis).

The post will be based at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, with an honorary contract with University of Liverpool and/or Liverpool John Moores University.

The post holder will be appointed initially for 1 yea in the first instance, with the likelihood of extension to a 2nd year if there is good progress and research outputs.

The post would suit individuals post-MRCP who are pre-specialist training or junior specialist registrars [or equivalent, who would like a period of well-supervised clinical research in an expanding, dynamic academic unit.


There will be the opportunity for high quality formal academic training, and the non-trials work could lead to a MD degree, and to several scientific publications.

Responsibility for administration of the directorate rests with the Clinical Lead for Cardiology, who deals with junior medical staff appointments, locums, annual leave, study leave and post graduate education.

However, day-to-day responsibilities for these will be with Profs Wright and Lip. The Clinical Research Fellow is expected to work together as a team alongside research nurses and data analysts.

An appropriate work space will be provided in the research unit at LHCH. The hospital employs an electronic patient record and appropriate training will be provided. Completion of a GCP course will be mandatory as part of induction. 3.


The post attracts a fixed salary of £35,795 (negotiable) in line with step 3 of the MN35 scale for a period of up to 24 months, and is available ASAP.

5. ROTA The posts attract 40 standard hours. On call duties can be negotiated in addition if required.
