This is an exciting opportunity to join a nationally recognised and successful organisation delivering strategic and operational impact across the UK's STEM (including computing) education and industry landscape.

STEM Learning's ability to reach and engage schools and teachers, along with our ability to prove the impact of our support, has increased considerably - its status is unrivalled in the sector.

By leveraging this unrivalled expertise, STEM Learning has diversified its funding portfolio across a multitude of programmes to support achievement of this vision, aiming for continued growth in the next 5-10 years.

Notable areas of ambitious growth within the scope of this role include the expansion of our support for the teaching of computing and digital skills, complementing the support provided by the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE).

Reporting to the Computing Programme Manager - the Gender Inclusion Lead role is critical to ensuring more girls choose to study computer science at GCSE, A level, degree level and beyond.

The Role

The Gender Inclusion Lead will provide the highest standard of project and programme management to develop, implement and expertly lead the Gender Insights Programme (GI) through provision of CPD, resources, on-line and physical networking and communities and partnerships with a wide range of organisations and individuals.

The Gender Insights Lead will work to:

  • Develop evidence informed Gender Insights Programme (GI) supported by external expertise and STEM Learning's education team.
  • Oversee the training of 350 Computing Inclusion Champions (CIC) who will undertake specialised CPD.
  • Develop and grow a community of practice, supported by the specialist Computing Hub through the STEM Community digital platform.
  • Maintain girls' positive attitudes towards computing as they transition to secondary school. (There is reliable evidence that this is a key age for interest to decline.)
  • Support highquality GIinformed teaching in KS3 computing for specialist and nonspecialist teachers. Evidence suggests this is a key factor influencing girls' choices, helping them feel confident that teaching will help them be successful in computer science at key stage 4 and beyond.
  • Build aspiration by highlighting the importance of computer science when students are considering GCSE and A-Level options, utilising diverse narratives and voices.
  • Raise awareness of careers related to computing through enrichment activities and interactions with Computing Ambassadors.

Ensure appropriate data collection, management and analysis relating to activities, to evidence impact, provide timely and accurate reporting, and support decision-making.

  • Work closely with STEM Learning's Impact & Evaluation team to support internal and external dissemination of impact, evaluation data and best practice to inform future activity.
