The Faculty of English and Literature in association with Lady Margaret Hall and St Anne's College is seeking to appoint two full-time Departmental Lecturers to two-year fixed-term teaching and research posts in English Literature, with a core focus on eighteenth-century literature.

It is anticipated that the appointees will take up the posts on 1 September 2023.

You will be expected to deliver up to 16 hours of Faculty lectures, classes, or seminars per year.

The Faculty teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate lecturing on eighteenth-century Literature in English, and supervision on a range of topics in Literature in English for the English Faculty, and College teaching within that period and for the Classics and English 'Epic' link paper.

You will also undertake dissertation supervision and examining and will be expected to provide around 8 hours per week of tutorial teaching or equivalent for undergraduates at College.


You must possess (or be near to completing) a doctorate in the field of English Literature, have experience of undergraduate teaching, and possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

You will also have a strong research and publication record in English literature of the long eighteenth century.
