Hours: 30+


Remuneration:
£ £11.50 depending on experience

The purpose of the role is to work as part a team of prescribing clerks, with the support of pharmacy technicians, clinical pharmacists and GPs, in a prescribing hub for Healthwest PCN.

The prescribing hub will manage all of the prescription requests for the 4 constituent PCN practices (Pembroke Road Surgery, The Family Practice, The Student Health Service and Whiteladies Health Centre).


The aim of the prescribing hub is to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care.

The post holders will help patients request and receive their prescriptions in a safe and timely manner.


The prescribing clerks will process prescriptions and provide an efficient and safe system of medication reviews, liaising with all relevant parties, including phone call contact with patients and other health care professionals regarding medication queries.

The postholder will ensure all administration duties and patient requests are processed in accordance with practice policy.


Roles and responsibilities
Clinical

Process repeat prescriptions on a daily basis ensuring compliance with the prescribing hub protocols.

Ensure all current medication have relevant, current authorisations.


Promote cost-effective prescribing at the practice through switching drugs to the generic preparation when appropriate and encouraging the use of local primary care trust formulary medication choices.


Deal with prescription queries from a range of healthcare professionals including; GP's, nurses, community pharmacists, nursing home staff as well as reception/administration staff at the practice.

Add new patient medication (appliances, simple moisturiser / barrier creams, stockings etc). Pass to registered GP for approval highlighting any concerns found, add relevant diary entries/recall. Liaise with patient via phone call, SMS or letter. Liaise with patient's pharmacy regarding changes, if necessary.

Liaise with Pharmacies regarding monthly dosette box prescriptions.

Attend regular prescribing hub team meetings and practice meetings, as necessary.

Any other duties as reasonably requested.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of English & Maths GCSE 'B' or equivalent.
  • Medical Terminology Training.
  • Pharmacy Services or equivalent NVQ qualification.

Technical

  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel & Powerpoint.
  • Previous experience of work within Primary Care, ideally as a Prescribing Clerk.
  • Knowledge of EMIS Web or other similar clinical system.
