Housekeeper - Horton General Hospital - Banbury

We are currently looking to recruit a number of motivated individuals, who would like to make a difference to the patient experience by joining the Horton in-house Housekeeping team here at Banbury.

If you have cleaning experience and enjoy working within a team why not consider becoming a Housekeeper.


Our team are responsible for providing and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the hospital, sometimes working on your own but often working as part of a team to provide a clean and safe environment for patents, staff and visitors.

Along with the cleaning tasks, Housekeepers also support the nursing team with the delivery of patient food and beverages.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.


Maintain high standards of cleanliness in line with agreed procedures which aim to reduce the risk of hospital acquired infections.

Abide by the strict 'National Colour Coding System' for cleaning within a healthcare environment.

To co-operate when new methods of working are introduced with the aim of improving work schedules and frequencies.

Replenish all hand towels, toilet rolls, soaps etc as and when required.


To operate all mechanical equipment i.e., floor cleaning machines, steam cleaners and vacuum systems in line with safe operating instructions and report any defects to the housekeeping supervisors.


Contribute to the maintenance of the fabric of the buildings by reporting defects and faults to ensure a safe working environment.


To be responsible for providing a patient beverage service throughout the day, and to assist nursing staff with patient meal services at lunch and supper as necessary.


To ensure the ward has adequate stocks of provisions, crockery, cutlery and linen and to report shortfalls to the relevant departments.


To empty and remove all clinical, domestic and recyclable waste ensuring waste segregation and identification procedures are followed at all times.


To take responsibility for the safe storage of all cleaning products and materials, ensuring hazardous chemicals are locked safely within cleaning trolley's and resource cupboards.

To undertake isolation room/ward cleaning in line with enhanced and terminal cleaning procedures.

To undertake thorough ward bay cleans on a weekly basis or when required and instructed.

To carry out curtain changes as and when required or instructed.


To ensure a clean uniform is worn at all times when on duty and to use relevant Personal Protective Equipment i.e.

gloves, aprons and non-slip footwear in accordance with the Trusts PPE Policy and Infection Control guidelines.

To complete all statutory and mandatory training in line with your contract of employment.

Assist in the covering of cleaning duties across the hospital site on the request of the Housekeeping Supervisors.


Work closely with nursing staff and take ad-hoc instructions from Senior Ward Housekeepers in relation to cleaning duties on their wards.

Carryout any other reasonable duties requested by the Housekeeping Supervisors or Estates and Facilities managers.
