A leading clean energy business based near Guildford is looking to hire an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer.


Main Role


This position requires a person with experience in instrumentation & control, electrical design, modification, and documentation to work within the Control & Electronics team.


The role includes the selection of instrumentation (sensors & actuators), producing system schematics, wiring schematics, specifications, and supporting the build and verification of prototype of electrical control panels.


The applicant should have good practical skills and competence in fault finding and design of electrical hardware to the highest of standards and quality and a good understanding of industrial electronics.


The applicant should thrive in working in an innovative design environment, be able to use their own initiative both working independently and as a member of a team of engineers and scientists.


Key Responsibilities

  • Selecting sensors (gas sensors, pressure transducers, etc) and actuators (solenoids, mass flow controllers, etc) to meet the system needs
  • Identifying new instrumentation products/technologies to provide cost and/or technical advantages.
  • Development of single line diagrams through to detailed electrical designs.
  • Generating requirements and design specifications for electrical components and equipment including transformers, motors, circuit protection and wiring.
  • Generating specifications and other documentation for electrical works for both internal and contractors.
  • Defining, generating and maintaining documentation for electrical products to support their compliance, and validation in accordance with product specifications.
  • Producing design documentation for manufacture.
  • Supporting and collaborating with other design engineers and scientists to ensure the correct product integration.
  • Providing support for design activities including; Safety Reviews, HAZOP, Cause & Effect, SIL, LOPA reviews.
  • Undertaking fault analysis, fault correction and product support with hands on testing and evaluation using a range of test equipment.
  • A teamplayer capable of communicating concepts clearly and concisely in written and verbal form.
  • Selfmotivated and confident working with specialist engineers and scientists.
  • Have the right to work in the UK without restriction.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in industrial process systems.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in the design of electrical systems compliant to EN 6020
  • Experience with functional safety compliance to EN 6151
  • Basic IT skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel and work internationally (if required)

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in machinery compliance to allow CE/UKCA marking of both new and existing machinery.
  • Direct experience with fuel cells or other electrochemical cell systems.
  • Experience with solar PV and/or battery installations.
  • Previous experience of working in adhering to a 'quality focused' organization and the associated QA procedures.
