SENIOR / PRINCIPAL HYDROGEOLOGIST
BGS ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE, ADAPTATION & RESILIENCE CHALLENGE AREA
This role is based at the BGS headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham
UKRI Pay Band E (or potentially Pay Band F depending on skills and experience)
Pay Band E salary is £39,748 per annum (Pay Band F salary, which is £50,702 per annum, may be payable to very strong applicants who can also demonstrate many of the desirable criteria set out in this advert)

Full-time - 37 hours a week (some flexible working options may be available including a small amount of remote working, however, flexibility will be required as fieldwork activities, lab work, meetings and other externally controlled events will take priority)

About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior / Principal Hydrogeologist to join the BGS Environmental Change, Adaptation and Resilience (ECAR) challenge area to work with our world-leading team of researchers in groundwater science.
As a Senior / Principal Hydrogeologist, you will be supporting a portfolio of hydrogeological projects, provide leadership, project management and data analysis expertise to existing BGS projects as well as develop new research ideas and collaborations and bids for grants and commercial contracts.
The key duties/responsibilities of the role include:
- Lead the technical area of Hydrogeological Field Characterisation within BGS Keyworth and manage a suite of projects for the Groundwater Science area.
- Prepare bids for external projects.
- Manage a team of hydrogeologists and act as the BGS authority on hydrogeological field characterisation to support projects across BGS.
- Write and deliver comprehensive client reports, often to tight deadlines.
- Play an active role in the Groundwater science community, publishing research and presenting at conferences.
About you
We are looking for an experienced hydrogeologist with extensive experience in leading field investigations, including detailed aquifer testing (e.g. hydraulic tests, tracer tests, geophysical logging, packer tests).
With a PhD in a relevant science area (or equivalent comparable work experience), you will have significant experience within a research environment.
The post involves extensive team working; therefore, you should be able to work effectively with others, in a strong multidisciplinary environment, and have very good time management skills.
