BACP is the leading professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in the UK with around 62,000 members.

Responsible for the management and development of the Association's divisional journals, overseeing their efficient and timely production, and working with the divisional editors to ensure that high editorial standards are met and that journals are published fit for purpose.


Principal accountabilities:


  • To manage the efficient production of BACP's divisional journals, ensuring the highest professional editorial practices and standards are achieved, they are published to agreed standards, to schedule and within budget, and that they are in line with BACP's policies, ethos, _Ethical Framework_ house style and tone of voice.
  • To ensure the continuing professional development of all aspects of the divisional journals, including content and design.
  • To read all journal content prior to press, and to liaise with editors, ensuring that content follows contributor guidelines.
  • To be responsible for the recruitment and development of divisional editors, ensuring that editors are sufficiently resourced in their roles, within budget.
  • To provide support and advice to editors on an ongoing basis relating to editorial best practice and editorial queries.
  • To act as the main point of contact and advice for external editorial queries relating to divisional journals, including copyright and republication of content.
  • To work with the Head of Member Services to ensure guidelines and policies relating to divisional journals are up to date and fit for purpose.
  • To act as the main point of contact for liaison between divisional editors, external designers and BACP, and to provide design feedback to editors, as required.
  • To liaise and work with BACP's website editors, ensuring that the divisional journals are published online accurately and to schedule.
  • To carry out administrative tasks which are necessary to support the fulfilment of the points above.

Knowledge and experience:


  • Five years' journalistic experience at editor level.

Competencies:


  • A high degree of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable broad and indepth knowledge of and experience in editing and producing magazines and/or journals.
  • Understanding and experience of managing the production process of a publication.
  • Proven experience of working on multiple, concurrent deadlines

  • Demonstrable peoplemanagement skills and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Good level of computer literacy skills across different systems and the ability to learn and adapt to IT systems.
