About The Role
***Founded in 1910 Scudamore's Punting Company is Cambridge's premier punt tour and boat hire business. As we prepare for the new season, we are looking for a self-motivated, responsible person with a proven ability to lead, motivate and develop others to run one of our busy city centre locations for the summer season.


What you'll be doing


The Boatyard Lead Supervisor is a seasonal role and is responsible for leading the successful operations of our Boatyard station, ensuring we provide a first-rate service delivery to our punting and paddle-craft customers.

Your responsibilities will include the effective resourcing and delivery of the station operations, supporting team members and ensuring that they are working productively and safely.

You will also be responsible for upholding standards, encouraging staff to be Company ambassadors through effective performance management and role-modelling of desired behaviours.


You will help take our business forward by:

  • Ensuring an exceptional visitor experience and station presentation.
  • Championing a safe culture and environment for our customers and staff.
  • Managing the daytoday staffing levels and feeding into weekly rostering.
  • Mentoring, managing, motivating, and developing our team.
  • Delivering on performance targets.


You will also have the opportunity to regularly interact and engage with senior management where your input will help inform strategic planning for the business.

You will be able to demonstrate how your aptitudes, experience and skills make you the ideal person to ensure your team provide the highest level of hosting and customer care whilst successfully achieving challenging financial and personnel-driven key result areas.


In particular you will be able to evidence:

  • Experience working at a boat hire/rental operation or at a watersports centre.
  • A passion for, and demonstrable experience of, delivering exceptional customer care in a team setting.
  • Experience of leading and motivating a team.
  • Experience of coaching or performance management, including offering constructive feedback.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate, empathise and collaborate. Effective time management skills, including an ability to delegate.

What would really help?

  • Previous experience of managing or supervising others.
  • Visitor attraction, hospitality industry or retail experience.
  • Knowledge of operational or sales management within the commercial sector.
  • Evidence of strong situational awareness and adaptability in a dynamic working environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with an ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesise information to help make informed decisions or solve problems effectively.

About Scudamore's:

What's the package?

  • Remuneration of up to £31,460 per annum (pro rata) inclusive of performance bonuses which are based upon individual and team performance.
  • Fulltime role, working five days out of seven including weekends and public holidays. Shift patterns are seasonally flexible.
  • 28 days holiday per year (pro rata).
  • This is a seasonal fixed term contract from early May October 31st 2024. After this period the option to continue / extend the contract will be available in our Shift Supervisor role.

Special demands of the role

  • The nature of our business requires our staff to be comfortable working on and around water.
  • This role is physically demanding and often requires you to remain on your feet throughout the working day, which requires an appropriate level of fitness.
  • The Company is scheduled to open 364 days per year and our staffing needs are usually greatest at weekends and holiday periods. This role therefore requires flexibility with regards to work hours and availability to work most weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
