As an Apprentice in Health & Safety your role is to support and ensure timely investigation of accidents and incidents [health, safety and environmental issues] and review recommendations for preventative and corrective actions.

To ensure legal compliance to all regulations and HSE Codes of Practice

Duties of a Health & Safety Apprentice:

  • Attend and engage with training, including exams and 1-2-1 meetings with your tutors/assessors
  • Manage your time effectively to complete all coursework, assignments and exams required to achieve the apprenticeship
  • Reflect on your own practice and experiences and take any feedback onboard
  • Learning, understanding and supporting the Company internal audit programme, providing assurance that the system is in compliance with all relevant standards and requirements.
  • To produce monthly MBR/CSR reports as directed to do so by the Head of Safety, Quality & Environment
  • Support H&S audits at any of the Marshall Aerospace operations in line with the Audit Programme
  • Supporting and advising Business management teams, providing core team updates, legislation and company policy changes through various media including face to face training
  • To implement and enforce safe working practices in line with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to monthly safety meetings, staff inductions and work place inspections
  • To support management in providing appropriate corrective actions arising from the audits and accident investigations.
  • To support all inspections by regulatory agencies and coordinate the implementation of corrective actions
  • Reviewing and assessing supplier/contractor Safe Systems of Work proposals
  • Work with task staff to produce Risk Assessments and safe systems of work in line with company procedures and current legislation.
  • Supporting Health Improvement initiatives
  • Learning and carrying out investigations, with the use of Quality tools and techniques (such as Root Cause Analysis Ishikawa)
  • Supporting Product Safety and Error Management investigations
  • Maintaining suitable records and reports to support monthly KPI / metrics
  • Supporting Continuous Improvement activities both within the department and in the Operations areas
  • Supporting nonconformance / accident owners through facilitation and deployment of problem solving tools and skills.
  • Supporting the management of safety training databases and the interface with other databases (eg Workday / IFS)
  • Delivering H&S Induction and other H&S presentations as required.
  • Liaising with Engineering and Operational apprentices on their H&S rotations
  • Reviewing and understanding regulation changes and their implications to safe operations across the business
  • Providing support and guidance on safety related matters across the business as required.
  • Perform other duties as defined by the HS&E Manager
The Apprenticeship

Your apprenticeship will be delivered by one of our partner training providers.

As an Apprentice in Health & Safety working in our Aerospace business you will be following the Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

The programme will be 24 months and you will work towards developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required through a range of workshop training, classroom sessions and on the job learning.
