Purpose of the role:

Colas Ltd are looking for a Chargehand/Skilled Operative to be based at our Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Depot (NE6 5DE). The Chargehand will be working within a small structural maintenance team.

Your day to day activities will involve carrying out reactive structural repairs to the structures within the City of Newcastle.

You will be required to participate in out of hours call outs to emergency repairs and on occasion the setting out of traffic management and participation in winter maintenance treatments.


Main Responsibilities:


As a Chargehand/Skilled Operative your role will include:

  • Acting as Chargehand to lead a small Structures Maintenance Team of between 2 to 4 people.
  • Reports to and deputises for Structures Senior Foreman.
  • 12D Traffic Management Qualification preferable (M1/M2);
  • Carry out structural reactive repairs to the satisfaction of the Client.
  • Winter maintenance qualification desirable (City & Guilds Operator Unit 613).
  • Participate in winter maintenance delivery and out of hours rota.
  • Participate in out of hours call out rota for both winter duties and emergency callouts

_ It is essential you will hold a Valid UK Driving Licence and preferably a HGV 2 Licence_
Career development and progression is available, and you will have the ability to move into supervisory roles
