This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned payroll and finance professional to take on an autonomous, hands on payroll position, running payroll for the full staff as well as providing Accounts support & cover across the wider Accounting team.


Typical duties:


Payroll Duties:


  • Administer payroll services ensuring staff are paid correctly and timely.
  • Handle payroll queries promptly and professionally, collaborating with relevant authorities when needed.
  • Process accurate and timely salary payments, including deductions and adjustments.
  • Manage payroll changes and ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Calculate salary arrears, produce payslips, and handle payments for departing staff.
  • Manage income tax, national insurance, and pension contributions, ensuring accurate calculations and payments.
  • Prepare and submit necessary returns and declarations to relevant authorities.

Other Duties:


  • Work with Head of Finance to provide effective finance services meeting school needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Support & provide cover for the wider finance team with accounts payable & receivable duties
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for school fees and thirdparty hire.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve billing queries from parents efficiently.

The person must have:


  • A minimum of five GCSEs, including Mathematics and English, at grade C or above;
  • At least two current years of experience of payroll processing and pension administration;
  • A detailed working knowledge of payroll statutory payments and deductions;
  • Experience of using computerised payroll systems and MS Word and Excel;
  • A proactive and organised approach, being able to work under pressure to meet fixed deadlines;
  • The ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team;
  • Excellent customer service skills and verbal and written communications skills.

Desirable

  • Business, Finance, Payroll or Accountancy qualification (in part or in full)
  • Experience of working within the educational sector and knowledge
