A unique and exciting position has arisen for a Fundraising Officer/Manager for a Public Research University based in South Ealing, West London.

You will be working with a small and very supportive fundraising team, 35 hours p/week with flexible and hybridworking offered.

This is a contract position of 6- 8 months duration. Experience in fundraising is desirable but not essential, as training and mentoring will be given.

You will be required to maintain and cultivate relationships with existing supporters, but also support on driving forward the major donor pipeline.

You will manage strategic projects and high priority donor relationships, with the aim of attracting highvalue gifts in support of the University's fundraising objectives.

You will also work closely with senior staff and volunteers in identifying imaginative ways to capitalize on fundraising opportunities.


Key responsibilities:


  • Manage a highprofile portfolio of individuals, maintaining close personal relationships with each in your portfolio.
  • Work closely with the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, senior staff and highprofile honorary alumni to bring prospective donors to the point where they can be asked for a major gift. This includes advising the above on the best approach for engaging a prospectand ensuring that the engagement strategy is implemented collaboratively.
  • Initiate your own research on prospective donors and direct the focus of the prospect researcher/and or professional agencies in order to support your identification, approach, cultivation, and stewardship of potential donors through calls, visits andother forms of communication.
  • Independently manage the production of effective written proposals, reports and presentations to donors and prospective donors for Fundraising purposes. This includes but is not limited to building an effective case for support, drafting detailed costsand financial information related to the project, interpreting academic content and presenting the information in an accessible style and layout.
  • Set fundraising priorities and strategy in collaboration with the Head of Alumni and Development, Heads of Schools and members of the Vice-Chancellor's Executive.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Development and Alumni Relations team, key staff of all seniorities including academic and management staff to deliver the required investment for university projects and ensure the smooth running of projects thereafterto aid donor stewardship.
  • Maintain clear and uptodate records on donors and prospect management.
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of the University's responsibilities to its donors and uphold the University's policies on the acceptance of gifts.
  • Remain up to date with developments in fundraising and keep abreast of relevant philanthropic news, charity law and other relevant laws.
  • Offer support and take up any duties assigned by the Head of the department.
  • Observe and comply with the University's policies and regulations, including the key policies and procedures on confidentiality, conflict of interest, ethics, data protection, equal opportunities, financial regulations, health and safety.

Knowledge and experience:


  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent.
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to identify new opportunities for developing income streams.
  • Very strong influence and relationship building skills, an excellent and proficient communicator.
  • The confidence, sensitivity and awareness to deal with highprofile individuals and make successful facetoface requests for financial support at significant levels.
  • Demonstrable experience of prioritising workload and working to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
  • Strong IT skills including database and excellent word processing skills.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office products, good knowledge of the web and capability in web research.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop productive relationships with a variety of staff, alumni, students and senior volunteers.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic thinking and planning as part of the Development and Alumni Relations team.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and take on other duties as and when required.
