About us
Hemsworth Town Council is seeking to appoint a
Grounds Maintenance Facilities Supervisor to be based at Hemsworth Water Park.


The Town Council is set in an area of rolling countryside with very much a rural feel to it despite its industrial and coalmining history.

Purpose of Job


Day-to-day supervision and planning of the work of the Service Provision Team and seasonal assistants and to assist in the promotion and delivery of services.


General Tasks
This includes on a daily basis the following duties in Hemsworth Water Park and other locations:

  • To plan and coordinate the work Service Provision Team and seasonal assistants to carry out their tasks in an efficient and safe manner.
  • To ensure quality standards are maintained and that performance targets are met.
  • To ensure that the team works effectively as a team and that service improvements are identified and implemented.
  • To ensure that the management of Hemsworth Town Council estate is sustainable and cost effective.
  • To ensure all team members adhere to safe systems of work and that all machinery and equipment is properly used and maintained in accordance with health and safety guidance.
  • To ensure that the team's workload is prioritised effectively.
  • To ensure that all documentation in relation to work carried out and management of the team members is completed appropriately and kept up to date.
  • To organise the HTC "garden scheme" in an effective manner and as best possible to the satisfaction of precept payers who pay the garden fee.
  • To deal with customer enquiries/complaints promptly and effectively.
  • To communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
  • To monitor and control attendance of team members, including sickness.
  • To carry out administrative tasks associated with the post.
  • To carry out the duties of the post in accordance with Hemsworth Town Council's policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety Regulations are observed, and safe working practices are complied with, e.g., lifting and handling procedures.
  • Work to actively promote good employee relations and safety practices in accordance with Hemsworth Town Council's policies.
  • To ensure that the team works efficiently with other HTC staff and that good practice in service delivery and customer care are transferred and applied effectively.

Customer Service
The priority of the service team is to manage the landed estate of the Hemsworth Town Council in a sustainable and efficient manner to the benefit of its precept payers and visitors to facilities which will mean:

  • Working with customers to ensure outdoor facilities are kept clean and safe;
  • Working with the angling community to sustain the lakes and the fish ecosystem;
  • Ensuring that wildlife is allowed to flourish with mínimal impact from park visitors; and
  • Ensuring that play areas are safe for children and families.


The postholder will ensure that staff are sufficiently trained and aware of maintaining the green ecosystem and the park infrastructure to the benefit of visitors and natural life.


Financial

  • To ensure that facilities and equipment are sustained in an economically efficient manner.
  • Ensure that plant bought is value for money and properly looked after.
  • Maintain records and monitor use of fuel and other consumables.

Training

  • To provide or source appropriate training (including health & safety, plant use & maintenance, and horticulture) for fulltime and casual staff.
  • Ensure that all staff are fully aware of safe working practices to protect themselves, their colleagues and members of the public.
  • Be responsible for maintaining staff training records and mentoring apprentices.

Maintenance

  • Where appropriate and costeffective to undertake the maintenance of plant, tools and equipment.
  • Ensure that staff use and maintain grounds plant and equipment properly and keep it in a safe condition for all staff to use.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager to maintain an uptodate inventory of equipment and to ensure that this valuable resource is safely stored and deployed.

Other Duties

  • To carry out other duties as require by the General Manager from timetotime.
  • Have a good understanding of, and firm commitment to community run services.
  • Hemsworth Town Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment and particularly in those areas where children and vulnerable adults may be more present.
  • It will be necessary for you to work outside normal working hours including some work in the evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
