NJC 10 £23,620 (FTE) £12.28p p.h. (12 month contract initially)


Hours: 10 hours per week, worked flexibly

Tiverton office and home based

Devon People First Project Coordinator / Chief Officer


Purpose of the Post:


Involve is the umbrella support charity supporting and facilitating community action and resilience in Mid-Devon and this includes Devon People First (DPF).

This project supports people with learning difficulties to speak up for themselves through self and peer advocacy.

It is run as a semi-independent body within Involve, having its own management committee comprised of people that use the service, a nominated representative of which sits on Involves board.

The project facilitates friendship groups for people with learning disabilities in Devon and the role will support the project in enabling to access their local communities/services and have the same rights as everyone else.

DPF also provides an Individual Advocacy Service for victims of crime with a learning disability, funded through the Police and Crime Commissioner.

The role will support the project coordinator and volunteers with learning disabilities through effective promotion and administration of the project to sustain and build the project.


Key Outcomes of Project

  • People with learning disabilities are supported to sustain friendship groups in Devon through promoting the project within our Devon network, maintaining current leaflets and group information.
  • People with learning disabilities are listened to and engaged.
  • Over a period of time these groups are enabled to become independent with their activities.
  • People, groups, and organisations are being linked creating a more connected community.
  • Volunteers with learning disabilities are facilitated to attend meetings using internet platforms.
  • People with learning disabilities are encouraged and enabled to have a voice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective admin support to the lead coordinator and ensure documents, records and policies and procedures are uptodate and relevant.
  • Support with all aspects of Devon People First project including research, admin and reporting.
  • Marketing and promotion of DPF activities including social media
  • Collect evidence of outputs and outcomes, ensuring consistent implementation of the monitoring and evaluation process.
  • Report to the project lead of any successes, challenges and difficulties to enable the progress of the project in a positive manor.
  • Undergo necessary training including safeguarding
  • Maintain awareness of County and other initiatives and developments that present opportunities for people with learning difficulties to be more engaged and have influence over what happens in their communities.
  • Be aware of and follow policies and procedures, with particular attention to safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
  • Undertake any other duties within your capabilities as may be required including support for volunteers with learning disabilities to attend meetings so they can carry out their volunteer duties.

SKILLS & QUALITIES
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills especially in engaging and listening to people at all levels (E)
