REED Business Support are working with a nationally established charity to find a Service Development Manager to head operations in Rotherham/Pontefract.

This role requires someone from a strong social care service delivery background but with a flair fordevelopment and innovation.

This role will lead on the development of services and interventions for the organisation's personal welfare service in order to meet the needs of former coal miners, their families and wider communities and will also provide operational management oversightof the organisations social centre in Pontefract ensuring high quality operational delivery and ongoing development.


Key responsibilities:


  • Lead on the development and expansion of the organisations personal welfare service and Thornycroft service with other senior members of staff, taking into account best practice and the changing needs of the client group.
  • Develop service models, policy, and practice to underpin new areas of delivery to ensure services achieve positive outcomes for the client group.
  • To oversee the management of the Thornycroft Centre, working with the Centre Coordinator to develop the service offering both within the Centre and the community.
  • To develop, manage and work within budgets for both the Thornycroft Centre and in any new initiative.
  • Work with the Social Work Development Manager, senior social worker team and wider staff to identify gaps in provision and potential to broaden the service offer for the client base.
  • Support organisational change and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Develop proposals for funding of new initiatives alongside the Chief Executive.
  • To keep abreast of developments in policy and practice in the social care and use this to inform new service development and funding opportunities.
  • Develop good working relationships with partner agencies to identify areas of joint working in the development of new services and initiatives.
  • Represent the organisation at events and meetings as required.
  • As part of the wider management team, to participate in organisational development, planning and monitoring.
  • Participate in personal development opportunities and develop such opportunities for team members to facilitate a learning and development culture in the organisation
  • To work within a flexible framework in order to meet the demands of the service which may include outside the usual 95 hours and considerable travel.
