Overall purpose of the role:


Reporting to the Charge Hand / Site Manager, the Site Mechanical Fitter performs a technical, organisational role on installation or maintenance projects on client's sites.


As one of the public faces of the company the Mechanical Fitter must maintain a professional attitude and relationship with customers at all times.

Interacting with clients, interpreting their needs, requirements, and representing them in the field at all times. They share responsibility for site security, health and safety.


Core Duties

  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with company procedures.
  • Contribute to and review risk assessments / POWRA and Method statements as required
  • Completing all duties according to applicable risk assessments and method statements
  • Ensure site electrical equipment is PAT tested and in good condition
  • Immediately notify Charge Hand / Site Manager of any reasons why the project completion date may be delayed of any reasons why the project completion date may be delayed
  • Where appropriate maintain a van and stock in a clean and tidy condition
  • Repairing, testing and make modifications to mechanical equipment.
  • Performing Mechanical Installations on customer sites.
  • Cleaning and lubricating gears, shafts, bearings and other machinery parts.
  • Uses gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements and calculate dimensions
  • Assisting with diagnostic checks and symptom analysis.
  • Explaining technical issues to nontechnical people.
  • Keeping an up to date inventory of mechanical tools.
  • Identifying malfunctions and then carrying out repairs.
  • Repairing or replacing defective equipment parts.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance.
  • Conducting machinery tests before delivery (ie gear boxes).
  • Wearing appropriate PPE in designated safety areas.
  • Assisting in the training of apprentices.
  • Consulting with senior colleagues regarding technical issues.
  • Ensure design issues or changes required to the manufacturing process are authorized by the Fitting & Machine shop or Site Manager / Charge Hand
  • Keeping the workplace in an organised and clean condition
  • Ensure the safe use of lifting equipment and good use of manual handling techniques
  • Complete required job sheets and accurately record worked hours to assigned jobs
  • Any other duty required by the company that is within the skills and capabilities of the employee.
  • Working away, weekends when require, some bank holidays and night shifts.

Experience:

Mechanical Fitter: 6 years (preferred)
