Billesley Primary School is looking to recruit an inspirational Assistant Principal who is an excellent practitioner and has strong leadership skills to join our outstanding leadership team.


The successful applicant will work in partnership with the Strategic Leadership Team to implement an inspiring and compelling vision of achievement for all to empower all pupils and staff to excel.


The focus of the role of Assistant Principal is to lead and manage a Phase at Billesley Primary School, with a specific focus on responsibility for standards of achievement and teaching and learning.

The Assistant Principal will also be responsible for the leadership of a curriculum area or specific aspect across the school.

The Assistant Principal will work closely with and report to the Vice Principal, who is strategic lead for the EYFS.


Billesley Primary School and Billesley Research School are committed to school improvement across the wider school network, under the remit of the Elliot Foundation Multi Academy Trust and the Education Endowment Foundation.


Therefore, the Assistant Principal may be required to work at any other school or academy identified as part of this process at any time or for any period as directed by the Principal or the Regional Director.


The Assistant Principal will be an excellent teacher and leader of teaching and learning whilst leading and managing a Phase within the school on a day-to-day basis, being the first point for staff and parents in matters relating to the Phase.


The Assistant Principal is an important part of the public image of the school and be expected to engage in all activities and aspects of school life.


The Assistant Principal will work collaboratively with the Vice Principal, providing coaching and support for teaching staff within your phase and holding them to account for raising standards of achievement.

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about research based practice and who looks for every opportunity to promote exciting opportunities for learning across the school and the community.

The post is non-class based with a 50% teaching commitment focused on raising standards.

Qualities and Knowledge

Support the Strategic Leadership Team in establishing the vision of the school and demonstrating inspirational

leadership and creativity

Be an outstanding role model in terms of the expectations, policies and priorities of the school

knowledge for own area and across the primary age range

Closely work with the Vice Principal when supporting excellent teaching, learning and implementation across the EYFS

Work with the Vice Principal to monitor and quality assure the quality of education within the early years

Communicate the school's vision and expectations of standards, teaching and conduct and reinforce this at all times, empowering all staff and pupils to excel


Develop and enhance a culture of team work in which all members of the school community are valued and taken into account.

Have the highest possible expectations for own performance and that of all staff and pupils

Have a secure knowledge of effective EYFS implementation and a firm understanding of the EYFS curriculum and pedagogical approaches within the early years

Analyse and report on EYFS outcomes

Pupils and Staff

Ensure ambitious standards for all pupils in order to overcome disadvantage and advance equality for all

Ensure strong accountability amongst all staff so that there is a shared understanding of the impact of school's work on pupil outcomes

Secure excellent teaching through developing an understanding of how pupils learn and the core features of successful classroom practice

Encourage the sharing of best practice across the school and beyond by drawing on shared observations, data analysis and own relevant research

Promote the consistent and innovative use of technology to support excellence in teaching and learning

Systems and Processes

Play a lead role in the school improvement planning process and contribute to the self evaluation of the school

Identify key areas of strength and improvement in the school, developing a detailed knowledge of the day to day policies and working practices of the school

Share responsibility for the analysis of school performance data to ensure that swift action is taken and that appropriate action is prioritised

Contribute to target setting including statutory procedures and targets for individuals and groups across school

Contribute to the appraisal process for all staff as required

Ensure that any systems implemented are evidenced based, rigorous, fair and transparent and promote the accelerated progress of pupils

Engage with the Community Council as required
