Counter Terrorism Policing - EOD - Explosives Officer - Band A

Salary:
£69,161 to £79,882 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £69,161 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £79,882 will be via incremental progression.

Job Summary
The role of the Explosives Officer (EXPO) is to provide a 24/7 technical response and render safe capability for munitions, improvised explosive devices, and precursor component parts containing, or suspected of containing, explosive, chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials, both pre
- and post-initiation, whenever and wherever required.

Key Tasks

To provide effective and timely resolution to CBRNE incidents
To ensure the safe removal of the threat posed by CBRNE incidents
To advise key decision makers and partner agencies on the risk, mitigation and consequence management of incidents involving explosives and hazardous devices
To provide operational management in assessment, decision making and prioritisation of resources deployed to any task, and provide operational supervision in responding to CBRNE related tasks as required, whether CT related or otherwise
Other technical tasks as directed by the Head of Unit

Key Skills

The role holder must have undertaken Military service as an Ammunition Technician or Ammunition Technical Officer
Proven experience and able to demonstrate both relevant and recent employment experience in the field of EOD/IEDD
Qualified to the standard of High Threat Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) Operator must have attended and successfully completed the Ministry of Defence (MoD
Army) Advanced Manual Techniques (AMT) course
Qualified as a Biological and Chemical Munitions Disposal (BCMD) operator having successfully completed the (MoD
Army) BCMD course or equivalent
Advanced Radiological and Nuclear Trained (ARNT) having successfully completed the AWE ARNT course
Selfdriven and a natural forward planner. Excellent communication skills and confident in delivering presentations
Ability to complete a role specific Job-Related Fitness Test, Public and Personal Safety Training and ELS

Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access.

However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties.

For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e))
OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

Desirables

Training qualifications
A detailed understanding of Counter Terrorism Policing, specifically identifying opportunities for forensic exploitation in support of an investigation
Awareness of CBRN functions within the MPS
Experience with uniformed police response protocols and the structures of incident command within the MPS and wider policing there will be a requirement to work at operational and strategic level both internally and externally within a command structure.
