This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Health Visitor or Midwife, experienced in Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (PIMH) and Infant Feeding to lead, co-ordinate and establish system wide parent-infant relationship and infant feeding pathways.

The post has been funded for two years initially, as part of the government Family Hub and Start for Life agenda.

The post holder will be responsible for mobilising and overseeing a multi-disciplinary team of trained staff within the 0-19 Public Health Nursing (PHN) and Midwifery teams and other services (including Early Intervention, Children Centre and Perinatal Mental Health) to deliver high quality parent-infant relationship and infant feeding interventions to families across Lewisham.


The post holder will line manage a small team of HV Specialists and or / Specialist Midwifes and work in close collaboration with other clinical colleagues and system partners to lead the development of expert nurse/midwifery-led PIMH and Infant Feeding Pathways across the organisation and Lewisham wide system The post holder will contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit with the aim of improving access to PIMH and Infant Feeding services The post holder will have a key role in ensuring seamless, co-ordinated and timely approach to care for their client group.

The post holder will also provide leadership, management and a high level of clinical expertise in their specialism and contribute to the support, education and training for their team and other professionals.

The post holder will have a clear understanding of the strategic political view and challenges faced by primary and secondary care and will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team in the planning and development of a more integrated service for clients across the system.


  • To coordinate Start for Life funded activities as above by leading and establishing multi agency PIMH and Infant Feeding pathways,
  • To develop and coordinate and support the delivery of a multiagency training offers.
  • To establish and develop an effective clinical and reflective supervision framework across PHN teams and the wider system.
  • To work with colleagues in BI to develop accurate data gathering protocols to support needs assessment and ongoing evaluation of the Start for Life programmes.
  • To undertake advanced clinical care, interventions and procedures commensurate and as required within the speciality.
  • To provide expert evidence based advice to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals.
  • Employ effective decision making skills to address complex, distressing and sensitive issues and use effective change management skills to complement them.
