Manufacturing Engineer

Our client is a well-established leader in their field and with a track record of continued profitable growth and a Global footprint.

They are a designer and manufacturer of highly technical scientific instrumentation.


In this role you will be part of a team of empowered multi-disciplined engineers to take responsibility for the manufacturability of current and new products to ensuring that the Operations quality, delivery, and cost targets are achieved.

The role is broadand will suit someone who enjoys variety and solving problems. There are two roles available, one would suit a graduate level, the other a more experienced Engineer. The company is highly progressive, offering enormous opportunity for career development, whetherin manufacturing or moving into other disciplines.


Areas of focus within this role:


  • Production/Materials support: Ensure that all engineering problems are resolved to achieve Production/Materials customer delivery dates and targets.
  • Ensure that product is built and tested to Build Standard
  • Manage the cutin of Engineering Changes to Production/Materials
  • Resolve immediate product technical problems with R&D
  • Work with suppliers on quality/process capability problems
  • Identify and resolve any Health and Safety problems in Production

New Value Innovation: Take responsibility for the manufacturability of new products and ensure a smooth transfer of the product into production.

  • Management of alpha product procurement and build
  • Beta product drawing release and control
  • BOM creation and cost estimation/tracking
  • Boughtout part specifications and supplier selection with Purchasing
  • Assistance in generation of Assembly, Test and Shipping documentation.

Lean manufacture methods: Ensure the implementation of lean manufacture methods and practices including;

  • Design for Manufacture/Assembly (DFMA) and Failure mode and effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Accelerated Life test, for critical parts and assemblies
  • Six sigma/statistical process control methodologies
  • Cell layout, manufacturing process and workstation design
  • Materials flows, Kanban and pull systems

Quality: Take responsibility for the quality of the product shipped and other Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Monitor and improve the level of build/test quality of product.
  • Manage the Quality Notification reporting process and teams.
  • Ensure that all test data is appropriately archived for retrieval on group systems.
  • Ensure the robustness of all transferred manufacturing processes.

Cost control and reduction:


  • Identify and implement cost reduction ideas on current product
  • Ensure new product design are cost reviewed and optimised
  • Manufacturing transfer readiness assessment and preparation

General:


  • To respond to production problems in a timely manner
  • To take advantage of staff development opportunities and periodic performance reviews
