The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive.


The Anticoagulation Practitioner (ACP) is an efficient, effective and flexible member of the Anticoagulation team providing a high quality Anticoagulant monitoring service to patients through scientific and technical activities.

Patients attending Anticoagulation clinics must be treated with dignity and respect whilst their INR is measured using an appropriate method.

The ACP is responsible for determining Warfarin dosing advice to patients based on their history, concurrent medications and target range.


The post holder will be expected to maintain competence to practice and to improve professional expertise through engagement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) as well as departmental training and competency assessments.

The post holder's main base will be at either Leighton or Macclesfield Hospitals but with a substantial part of each week spent at community outreach clinics serving Mid, East, South Cheshire and Vale Royal.


The term ACP encompasses state registered staff such as Biomedical Scientists, Registered Nurses, and Pharmacy Technicians working in the Anticoagulation department.

This is not a laboratory-based role and the department is unable to support the IBMS certificate of competence (registration) portfolio or IBMS Specialist portfolio
