Job Title:

Job Purpose

A varied role where both hand and machine sewing skills will be used in the manufacture of highland wear. Based in modern and friendly factory environment where full training in highland wear production will be provided.

Principal Duties

  • Operating a variety of sewing machines including lockstitch, bartack, blind hemmer and overlocking machines used in the manufacture of Highland wear.
  • Checking to ensure that all material provided meets the required standard prior to any cutting/processing taking place.
  • The machine sewing will include the sewing of items along with sewing on labels and general hemming of goods and samples.
  • Undertake hand sewing in Highland wear manufacturing as required.
  • Carry out fabric pressing using the Hoffman press or hand pressing at the vacuum pressing station.
  • To halt production as soon as quality or specification problems arise and to report these to the Team leader as soon as possible, to ensure mínimal rejects.
  • Packing of finished goods as required.
  • To maintain a clean and tidy work area to prevent the soiling of fabric.
  • To assist in the maintenance of a safe working environment through the strict adherence to the Company health and safety rules and procedures

This will specifically include:
- ensuring safety equipment is used properly and in designated areas
- ensuring that any machinery is only operated in accordance with the risk assessment instructions
- ensuring that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times

Attributes and Experience
In addition to an excellent timekeeping and attendance record, the following attributes are required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A team worker with a flexible attitude.
  • Excellent eyesight and full capacity to recognise and distinguish between different colours.
  • Attention to detail in all aspects.
  • Previous industrial sewing machine experience and hand sewing skills are required.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
POSITION Sewing Machinist & Hand sewing operator

LOCATION Paisley

HOURS OF WORK Monday to Thursday, 37.5 hours per week
7.30 a.m. to 5.15 p.m.
(1/2 hour for lunch)

Additional hours may be required to fulfil the duties of the post.

ANNUAL LEAVE 24 days holiday entitlement per annum which includes time off for public/bank holidays.
The leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December.

REMUNERATION £9.50 per hour.
Payment is made weekly in arrears.

The original weaving business began in 1783 at Remony near Aberfeldy, Perthshire and moved to
Pitlochry in 1835.

Over the years there have been many changes to the business although it has always remained within the same family.

Since 1999 the Head Office and warehousing operations have been based in Perth, with production operations located in Keith and Paisley.

Macnaughton Holdings Limited is a privately owned company, managed by a Board of executive and non-executive Directors. The executive Directors are responsible for their separate divisions
(Finance, Operations, Production and Wholesale) with overall responsibility resting with the Managing
Director.

The Company employs approximately 70 people in total. The majority of the employees are based in
Perth, Paisley and Keith, with certain Sales Personnel based in other areas in Scotland and England
