A day in the life of an Ascent Operations Officer

  • As a Fixed Wing Operations Officer, you will be part of a dedicated, experienced and focused team delivering outstanding and vital support to fixed wing flying operations. You will be focused on Air Safety as you ensure flying staff and trainees have all they require in order to achieve their training missions by day and night.

  • You will:
  • Manage and control a busy operations desk operating various IT systems supporting a modern approach to air operations delivery.
  • Produce and deliver preflight briefings to aircrew and supervisors. Providing air safety critical information to ensure aircrew can plan their training missions safely and efficiently.
  • Work together with our customers, and key partners, to ensure that the daily flying programme requirements are delivered on time.
  • Input aviation specific notifications and warnings into our IT based Mission Planning System.
  • Submit flight plans for UK and overseas flights.
  • Act as the Ascent operations focal point within our onsite HQ supporting the ops desk and managing bookings of practice diversions and landings at other military and civilian airfields.
  • Respond to various aviation emergencies in a timely and calm manner.
  • Have an understanding of Ascent's Training Service Partner relationship.

What will make you successful?

  • You will already have a breadth of experience of operating within a busy flight operations area and will thrive on working as part of a team and also with key partners, in order to deliver the best possible support to the aircrew. Your strong communication skills and ability to quickly prioritise will be vital in a fast paced and dynamic aviation environment.
  • You will enjoy working in a team that is focused on safety and a desire to deliver timely and accurate information on time, every time. You will know the importance of being able to work successfully in situations that can often be pressured. It will be an advantage if you have prior experience within a military flight operations area.
  • You will also:
  • Have experience of using Mission Planning systems and other IT based ops support systems.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of working with air safety critical notifications and warnings.
  • Have strong presentation skills, targeting a wide audience from customers to key partners.
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and the ability to solve problems quickly and safely.
  • Have an understanding of Ascent's Training Service Partner relationship.
