**Safety Engineering Team Lead - Defence and Military Systems
**Permanent - Attractive -West Midlands/Shropshire

A
Safety Engineering Team Lead is required to join an International Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world leading military Systems.

The successful Safety Team Lead will be responsible for ensuring the safetyof equipment integrated onto, interfacing with, stowed on, or carried on the Defence Platform.


The
Safety Engineering Team Lead will be by managing a team identifying and analysing potential hazards and risks, then supporting the systems, trials, design, and sub-system teams to ensure those risks are minimised.

The
Safety Engineering Team Lead is a varied and demanding role, requiring close liaison between Engineering teams and suppliers.

The
Safety Engineering Team Lead needs to have significant drive and energy, strong engineering skills, and the ability to deliver a diverse programme to demanding time, target cost and quality requirements are essential attributes to succeed.

**The Safety Engineering Team Lead

will be responsible for the following:

  • Support the Project Safety, Environmental and Legislative.
  • Lead in the successful delivery of the Safety Programme to quality, cost and schedule.
  • Maintain and operate a Safety, Environmental and Legislative management plan.
  • Interact with suppliers and supplier's safety information.
  • Ensure receipt of complete and credible subsystem safety and environmental cases.
  • Determine the appropriate approaches to be undertaken to ensure safety of equipment.
  • Establish safety targets with decomposition into sub system targets and requirements.
  • Chair Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis meetings on behalf of customer and project.
  • Undertake safety analysis utilising a variety of techniques such as; Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Provide guidance to engineering & functional departments in relation to their requirements.
  • Generate and maintain robust Hazard Log entries.
  • Generate coherent safety justifications and Safety Case Reports on behalf of customers.
  • Delegation and management of safety task/project activities to achieve objectives.
  • Directing daytoday activities.
  • Resource management and technical mentoring of staff.
  • Undertake staff performance reviews.
  • Competently and confidently interact with Suppliers, Customer and User at all levels.
**The Safety Engineering Team Lead
should have the following Qualifications Skills or Experience:

  • Engineering Degree within Relevant Discipline
  • Experience of Safety Team Leading within defence systems environment.
  • Experience with the design and/or operation of armoured fighting vehicles.
  • Experience of engineering within the defence environment.
  • Working knowledge of MOD Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
  • Understanding of MoD safety management activities and processes.
  • Experience of carrying out safety analysis.
  • A good working knowledge of hazard management tools.
  • A willingness to examine and investigate issues.
  • A desire to ensure that equipment is safe.
  • Completing and overseeing the production and presentation of reports.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Able to work under pressure and be able to schedule, coordinate and to maintain efficiency.

Security Clearance (SC) will be required due to the nature of the Defence products involved
