Heat Trace is a manufacturing and engineering company with our headquarters and main manufacturing unit in Helsby Cheshire, we also have two manufacturing facilities at Bredbury, Stockport.

The prime activity of the business is the manufacture of highlytechnical heating cables for use predominantly in the oil and gas and advanced processing industries.


About the role:

The role requires experience and ability in both Electrical and Mechanical disciplines with a bias preferably towards Electrical.


The role would suit a self-motivated individual able to work both independently & as part of a team, with a flexible approach to the needs of a small but busy & innovative business.


Primary duties & responsibilities across all production sites to include:

  • Hands on troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of cable making and general factory equipment of varying vintage incorporating Inverter drives, DC drives, Temperature controllers, PLCs etc.
  • Maintenance & development of factory infrastructure systems including Electrical Supplies, Water Systems, Compressed Air, HVAC, Fire protection & IT network.
  • Installation, relocation and development of existing and new plant and equipment will also be undertaken as required.
  • There will be opportunities for involvement in equipment specification & design, to improve & enhance production processes.
  • Organisation and development of a small maintenance workshop.
  • Development & implementation of planned maintenance schemes including specification of spares inventory & organisation of other personnel carrying out maintenance tasks.
  • Identification of necessity for, and control of, subcontract assistance to achieve required goals will also be an aspect of the role.
  • Close liaison with Production and R&D functions is of key importance to the successful operation of the business.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with Business Quality and Health & Safety Management System Procedures and appropriate legislation.

Accountabilities and Activities:


  • Ensure that the Preventative Maintenance Plan is maintained, developed, followed, and recorded.
  • Maintaining inventory of equipment spares according to Machinery Spares Lists and experiences of repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure that the procurement process for new machinery, services or building improvements delivers the best solution with regards to functionality and value.
  • Identify, design, procure, install, and commission new equipment and services to continually improve quality, reliability and performance of the company's processes and products.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Business Quality System and Health & Safety Management System procedures and with no detriment to company products.
  • Responsible for the ensuring all equipment and maintenance/repair procedures comply with health and safety legislation including LOLER, HAVS, LEV, PAT, Noise and Radiation Protection.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A qualified electrical and/or mechanical engineer with a good understanding of both disciplines is essential.
  • This role requires an experienced, multiple disciplined individual with a varied understanding of manufacturing and machines.
  • A creative, innovative and methodical problem solver.
  • Nonspecific experience of IT networking would also be an advantage.

Judgement Skills:

  • Must be able to selfmanage, referring to their manager for key decisions.
  • Must be able to determine the root cause of a problem in a methodical way
  • Must be able to identify and assess the potential for improvement.
  • Must be able assist, develop and supervise other Maintenance personnel and apprentices where appropriate.
