HGV/Jetting Operative

The Lanes Group needs a HGV Jet Vac Engineer to join our Operational Team in Preston. The depot is a well established team that are looking to expand further with another strong member of staff.


The job:

You will be part of a two-person team operating our high specification jetting equipment and vacuumation units. Work projects will include any drainage related issues, including blockage clearance, pipe cleansing programmes and emergency reactive works.


Although you start at the depot, you will be mobile attending to all work activities within various work sectors including industrial, rail, utility, commercial, residential.

Travelling in your vehicle you will be covering jobs throughout the region, which can involve travel times added in addition.


About you:

You will be required to hold an HGV Class 2 licence, with ideally no more than 3 penalty points. A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.


You can become a successful Utilities Waste-Water Technician if you have
problem-solving, listening, critical thinking and teamworking abilities as well as a customer focussed approach.

Also, as you need to operate machinery, excellent hand-eye coordination and concentration are essential skills.

The following skills are also useful:

  • Competent in using an electronic device i.e. laptop / tablet, for data entry.
  • Physical fitness and lots of energy.
An in date CSCS also would be advantageous - however this could be obtained if necessary.

To work in the Utilities industry, you may have to compete with all weathers outdoors.

Protective clothing such as a hi-vis jacket, boots and a helmet are mandatory requirements and you may be asked to travel to different sites.

The workday starts early, especially during the summer, when there is light in the morning but drains can be blocked at any hour of the day and emergency assistant can often be needed.


You will be expected to comply with all Group Health Safety and Environmental compliance for which full Training with be provided as part of a Group Induction Training package including high pressure jetting, confined spaces, manual handling, first aid and other relevant courses to obtain certification.
