Job description We are looking for a general manager for our beautiful countryside nursery in the heart of West Sussex.


We are an independent family run business, and are looking for someone not only with managerial and childcare experience, but who understands the importance of a personal approach and creating a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere for children, parents, staffand visitors.


We are a Steiner influenced nursery, and place a high importance on learning through play and child led planning and activities.

Having opened in January 2020 we have seen our child numbers and local reputation grow to become a successful established business,and the new manager will be required build on this platform to take the nursery forward.

A minimum of 1 year of managerial experience is required.


Main Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To be responsible for and to oversee the day to day management, staffing, organisation and smooth running of the Nursery
  • To develop the ethos for underfives and to create a welcoming and family friendly environment.
  • To be a member of the management team and to contribute to the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of the Nursery.
  • To be responsible at all times for high standards of care and education of children between 0 to five years in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • To ensure the EYFS is promoted and delivered within the setting and the principles adhered to.
  • To ensure effective communication between the Day Care staff and with all partner organisations.
  • To order and maintain equipment and resources in the Nursery
  • To be accountable and responsible for day to day financial systems directly relating to the Day Nursery provision.
  • To be responsible for admissions in line with the admissions policy agreed by the management team at Head Office.
  • To keep a register and up to date records of all children using the provision and to give regular feedback to parents about their child's development and progress.
  • To be responsible for organising training and monitoring students in the provision.
  • To develop the ethos of the Nursery and create a happy, friendly, caring "homely" atmosphere
  • To ensure that high standards of childcare are consistently maintained
  • To maintain a safe and hygienic environment at all times and to ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations
  • To carry out regular Fire Drills and document in accordance with regulations from local Fire Department
  • To ensure written plans of activities are established by Nursery Team in respect of different age groups of children
  • To evaluate and review planning regularly with team members
  • To implement and administer Nursery policies
  • To be responsible for the upkeep of adequate records and documentation e.g. children's records, register etc
  • To welcome visitors and show them the facilities of the Nursery
  • To accept fees and be responsible for monies taken if necessary
  • To answer telephone, purchase enquiries and record messages
  • To maintain Nursery waiting list
  • To assist in the training of Nursery nurses or similar students and write intermediate and final reports if necessary
