Reporting in to the Sales Director, as Building Merchants sector Director, you will be tasked with implementing sales strategy, driving profitable revenue, account retention and management of sales staff across the UK.


As our Sales Director (Builders Merchants), you will be responsible for:

  • Providing the Builders' Merchant Team with regular feedback and development opportunities
  • Championing continuous improvement and innovation, rewarding and recognising the contribution of others
  • Establishing clear, challenging and achievable objectives
  • Delivering the Builders Merchant sales strategy
  • Delivering volume and price growth targets within this profitable sector
  • Proactively managing our Builders' Merchant customers and our dedicated sales team
  • Creating and enhancing longterm personal relationships with senior key customers

In order to be successful in this role, we would ideally like you to have experience of:

  • Presenting sector performance whilst demonstrating a clear understanding of results and subsequent actions
  • Implementing strategic sales and marketing plans that align with the wider business objectives
  • Ability to negotiate trading packages, rebates and pricing at the highest level
  • Forging positive longlasting relationships with key clients to understand their business needs and objectives
  • Serving as a credible business representative at major industry / customer events
  • Communicating with the sales managers / direct reports on a regular basis to assess against KPIs, leading a performance based culture
  • Organised, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Well rounded interpersonal & communication skills, able to prioritise
  • Use of technology e.g. CRM to drive sales growth and industry leading customer service
  • Delivering results through managing a field based sales team
  • Working in the construction industry
