Job purpose:


To assist with a variety of tasks which will enable & assist the person who needs care and support to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.


About the employer:


Our client is looking to recruit a Personal Assistant to provide support for their 8-year-old daughter for 6 hours per week during school holidays.


Our clients Daughter has complex care needs, she's non-verbal, doesn't eat (but has feeds from a bottle) and is in a wheelchair.

In practice she simply needs someone to play with her and give her 100% attention with engagement such as singing, talking to her, playing with toys etc.


She can be taken out in her wheelchair for her walk, she loves waving at people and seeing trees and animals.

She will watch Mr Tumble on TV but likes someone sat with her doing a running commentary on what he's doing.

She needs someone bubbly that can speak to her even though she doesn't speak back she has her own way of communicating.


The PA's primary job is to keep her safe (from falling off the sofa or hurting herself or choking on her milk etc) and secondary to make their time with her fun.

The PA needs to be competent to know the dangers of her choking on small items and to prevent injury from boredom.


Main duties:


Social duties:

  • Keep in touch & socialise with family & friends
  • Attend medical appointments if required
  • Access the local community in the wheelchair

Personal care:
Support with bathing/showering, teeth cleaning, dressing, administering medication and support eating.

Domestic duties:
Light housekeeping tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming and changing the bed linen.


Type of person that you/they are looking for:

Specific requirements: Someone with experience of working with individuals with complex care needs. Trained in manual handling.


Hours of work: 6 hours per week during School holidays


Rate of pay:
£10.42 per hour.


Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential:


  • Driving licence
  • Car and appropriate insurance
  • Experience of working with individuals with complex care needs
  • Trained in manual handling
  • First Aid trained
  • Confidentially
  • Good at building relationships

Preferred:


  • Good communicator
  • Good listener
  • Ability to support people with complex needs

Successful applicants will require DBS checks & employment references.

**This role is funded by the Local Authority and is paid 4 weekly.
