Description
Cheerful Sparrows Female is a 32 bedded acute surgical ward at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. Our admissions come from Accident and Emergency, transfers from theatre post surgery and transfers from the Intensive Care Unit.

Our patients are often very unwell and the conditions range from appendicitis, to major bowel surgery

The Ward is busy rewarding and exciting and will provide excellent experience for anyone interested in surgical nursing. Our patient turnover is high and discharge planning is paramount to our success.

To provide professional leadership, advice and guidance to Nurses and Healthcare Assistants and foster collaborative partnerships with other disciplines.

To communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, ensuring accurate and seamless information is conveyed and documented.


Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of agreed standards, ensuring that any shortfall is brought to the attention of the Line Manager.


Ensure that all quality initiatives within the critical care environment are adhered to and that the highest standards of care are maintained at all times.


Assist in the development of clinical protocols ensuring that these are reviewed in accordance with the needs of the service in conjunction with the Ward Manager.

Ensure that accurate and legible patient records are kept in line with professional and legal requirements.

Promote and maintain effective working relationships and communications with consultants, medical staff, nurse colleagues and other multi-agency.
