Your purpose:

Are you someone who gets excited about leading teams to deliver quality? Do you have experience in using data to spot cultural or procedural problems and enjoy putting things right? We are looking for Engineering Technical Leaders to define, own and govern how software is delivered securely, consistently and to a high quality to give our customers the best digital experiences


Our Engineering team operates centrally to ensure all software developed by our third-party development partners across Specsavers is engineered well.

The definition of well-engineered is one that follows the engineering principles, standards and policies, designed and built to with the full product lifecycle in mind.


Your role

  • Run a set of guilds to understand the IT needs and drive the adoption of standard software design principles and development practices
  • Support the development and maintenance of a library of software design patterns, principles, standardised tools and libraries
  • Support the Architects and Designers to ensure software best practices and principles are considered
  • Utilise extensive development experience to review inhouse and thirdparty development artefacts
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure and maintain Specsavers technical standards
  • Contribute to roadmaps for project delivery

What you'll bring

  • Proven track record in establishing and leading best practices
  • Minimum 5 years of programming experience preferably in Java and Web development
  • Broad experience designing, programming, and implementing large information systems
  • Experience working with thirdparty vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others
