The Maternity Quality, Risk and Safety team are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated individual to join our busy, friendly team and drive forward the work we are doing with NHSR and the Maternity Incentive Scheme.


Specifically the post holder will be expected to:

Be an authoritative and credible source of knowledge, information and specialist clinical advice in relation to the NHS Resolution Maternity Incentive Scheme.

Ensure the Specialty meet as a minimum the National Standards of the Care Quality Commission and NHS Resolution.


Write regular accurate and legible reports on progress with achieving the National Standards of the Care Quality Commission and NHS Resolution, including any challenges for escalation.


Provide leadership and specialist advice to, the maternity service_,_ regarding legislation, guidance and the regulatory framework relevant to the management of clinical risk and to improving clinical standards and patient safety.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced midwife with expert clinical knowledge.

The role requires the individual to collaborate with multiple stakeholders including midwives, nurses, medical staff, analysts, other governance teams and senior and divisional leadership teams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PATIENT CARE AND CLINICAL EXPERTISE


Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the service related to the quality and safety agenda.

Use clinical experience to communicate with patients and families during highly sensitive and difficult situations, maintaining confidentiality.

Coordinate 'duty of candour' where appropriate, in conjunction with the head of service and lead for governance.

Ensure patient participation in incident investigations and complaints.


PROMOTE AND ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE TEAM WORKING AND COMMUNICATION
***Take a lead role within the service around patient safety and quality.


Maintain the principles of governance by encouraging achievement of standards of excellence, underpinned by open communication and team working across all disciplines.


Ensure effective communication between all service providers within the speciality in relation to the quality, risk and safety agenda by attending specialty meetings and representing the specialties at trust meetings as required.

Represent the specialties at local and national networking to maintain and develop knowledge in governance and patient safety.


Support the development and implementation of a feedback system to all staff that incorporates the outcomes of incident investigation, Serious Incidents and complaints, outlining lessons learned as a result and actions to embed learning.

Use skills and expertise to support staff who are involved with distressing incidents.


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT


Lead the implementation of education and training relating to quality, risk and safety to all members of staff and students in collaboration with the Practice Development Midwives and local education providers.


Work with multi-professional staff across the services to ensure that staff understand the national standards of care, the role of the Care Quality Commission and Public Health England and provide support to deliver these standards consistently.

Contribute and participate in the continuing development of all staff.

Undertake personal professional development, seeking opportunities to enhance skills as identified via a personal development plan.

Participate in time out days and meetings within the division and trust.


CLINICAL GOVERNANCE, AUDIT AND RESEARCH
Contribute to the development and delivery of a corporate maternity strategy.

Support the Clinical Effectiveness Leads in the co-ordination of the clinical effectiveness agenda ensuring a robust framework is embedded within multidisciplinary teams acros
