We are currently looking to recruit a Trainee Management Accountant to work in our Finance Team based at James Walker & Co Ltd, Cockermouth in Cumbria.


The role of
Trainee Management Accountant will contribute towards the success of James Walker by Business Partnering with multiple departments across the James Walker manufacturing site in Cockermouth and the James Walker UK Sales Organisation in Crewe.


Main duties of this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Business Partner to Operations in Cockermouth and UK Sales in Crewe.
  • Reporting and interpreting manufacturing data and variances.
  • Controlling the cost structure for the business.
  • Drive robust financial procedures and controls throughout the business.
  • At least three A levels at grade C or above.
  • The ability to easily articulate complex ideas to different audiences.
  • A strong work ethic and be personally motivated.
  • The ability to build great relationships with both colleagues and customers.
  • Excellent problem solving, planning and organisational skills.
  • Comfortable working in a constantly changing environment.
  • An ability to work under the pressure of deadlines.


CIMA provides the fundamental knowledge you need to build a successful career in business or finance, and helps you develop the critical skills that James Walker and employers all around the world are looking for.

With CIMA you won't just be learning to crunch the numbers, you will develop knowledge and skills specifically aimed at accelerating your career progression.

We provide external tuition alongside in-house mentorship to help you progress through exams as efficiently as possible.

You will study a number of modules including Management Accounting, Financial Reporting, Managing Performance, Strategic Management, Risk Management & Financial Strategy.

You will work your way through from operational level to strategic level, developing your understanding of Finance and ultimately passing the end-point-assessment necessary to become a CGMA.


As you progress through the CIMA qualification you will be challenged and mentored to take on more complex tasks and projects.

This will be based on your development needs and relevant to the completion of the 3 years' work experience required to become a CIMA member.
